Author Visit with Olga Morrill
Here's an interesting bit of trivia: the library's history page about the whipping of the Quaker women in 1662 gets way more views than any other page on the website. Well now you can read a historical novel about this event in Dover's history. The author, Olga Morrill, will be here on

Ben Ludwig

Barrington resident and former Dover Middle School staff member, Benjamin Ludwig will be here speaking about his recent debut novel "Ginny Moon". This title was picked by Amazon as one of the best of the year (so far) and received starred reviews from two major book review sources. Ginny is the story of an autistic teen in a foster family who tries to be reunited with her mother, in spite of an abusive relationship with her.
Books will be available for sale and the author will be pleased to sign copies.

Lunch and Learn
Spend your lunch hour at the library on
Monday, September 18 at 12PM
learning about the increase in tickborne diseases and ways to prevent this growing public health problem with Carolyn Fredette, Vectorborne Disease Epidemiologist for the NH Department of Health and Human Services. Each year, New Hampshire has about 1500 case of Lyme disease, making it one of the highest incidence states in the country. Additionally, we have been seeing increasing rates of other tickborne diseases such as anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and Powassan virus.
Carolyn will provide an informative 45 minute talk, with 15 minutes for questions and answers. Participants will leave with some helpful handouts. Feel free to bring your lunch and eat during the presentation.

Preserving Your Heirlooms with
Lori Fisher
Are you the defacto family historian? Do you wonder how to preserve and care for all of the precious photos, memorabilia, and objects that illustrate your family's history? Get a jump start on that project with lots of helpful information on
Tuesday, September 18 at 7pm
. Lori Fisher, Director of the Baker Free Library in Bow, NH, will discuss the six agents of deterioration, and provide ideas and steps to take care of your important photos, documents, and objects. Handouts about appraisals, conservation, and resources for storage materials will be provided.

Author Visit: Alzheimer's Memoir
Kelly McCarthy, author of
"Brass Ring Memoirs" will be speaking at the library on
Thursday, September 21 at 2pm.
The book offers encouraging stories using practical methodologies to help caregivers reach their goals in Alzheimer's and dementia care. Using concepts such as "reaching for the brass ring," "creating peacock moments," and "finding out what's under the iceberg," Kelly will teach some simple, easy-to-understand ways to help caregivers and family members effectively communicate and care for individuals with memory challenges. The first 30 people to show up will receive a free copy of the book. Extra copies will be available for sale.

100th Anniversary of WWI
History Lecture
"Making Good on the Great War: Woodrow Wilson and the Decision to Take the United States into the First World War" will be presented by UNH history professor Kurt Dorsey on
Monday, September 25 at 7pm
. Wilson tried first for peace without victory, then joined the Allies in war when that effort failed.

Meditation class with Cindy Simon, M.A., NCC, RMT on
Tuesday, September 26 at 7pm
. Cindy will discuss how to live meditatively through humor and stories. Cindy teaches how to cultivate daily mindfulness resulting in more daily serenity and joy. Cindy will lead two meditations as well. Meditation is known to reduce anxiety, depression, insomnia, and stress, just to name a few of the benefits! Cindy has taught meditation for a decade. She has a Master's degree and is a nationally certified counselor, as well as a published author. Her desire is to inspire people to live their best life!

Censorship Trivia
Banned books week is Sept. 24th-30th and in celebration the library will be hosting a special censorship trivia event on
Wednesday, Sept. 27th at 7 PM
run by Tish Sims. Play against a team of librarians and see if you can beat the librarians in knowledge about censorship in literature, film and music! Prizes to be awarded. For adults aged 16 and older.

Second Wednesday Movie
This month's Second Wednesday Movie will be "Beatriz at Dinner" on
Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30pm.
This month only we will show this film in the
Trustees Room.
Beatriz (Salma Hayek), an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a spiritual health practitioner in Los Angeles. Doug Strutt (John Lithgow) is a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire real estate developer. When these two opposites meet at a dinner party, their worlds collide and neither will ever be the same. Rated R.

Knitting Group
On
Monday, September 11 from 6-8pm
the knitting group will meet
in the Trustees Room. This group is open to anyone who has a love for knitting and crocheting. All levels are welcome! Please bring your precious works-in-progress and any finished objects you would like to show off to the group.

Monthly Game Night continues on the 3rd Wednesday of the month which is
Wednesday, August 16th at 6pm.

Library Book Groups
Book groups will resume in September with the
Morning Book Group
discussing the book "The Last Days of Summer" by Steve Kluger on
Thursday, September 7 at 10am. The Evening Book Group
is taking the months of July and August off. Their next book "The Marriage of Opposites" by Alice Hoffman will be available to borrow in mid-August, and will be discussed on September 18 at 6:30pm. Artist of the Month
John O'Shaughnessy is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in painting. He shows his paintings in galleries throughout New England in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. His work is known for its color, intuitive translation of nature and the ocean in particular. He can often be found painting the ocean landscapes along the coast of New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. John teaches drawing, painting and printmaking at the Currier Museum of Art.
