A Letter from the Board Chair

Hello Friends of Newhouse,
Recently I a heard a quote, "Life must be lived forward, but it can only be understood backwards." As the new arrives and the old passes, we need to take time to slow down and recall all that has happened over the past year. As we look back at 2016, we continued to make great strides in realizing our vision of "Breaking the cycle." We came together to give our talent, time, and resources in support of our critical mission: To eliminate domestic abuse in our communities. Each year, the amazing Newhouse staff continues to save lives by providing compassionate care and advocacy to over 1,000 women and their children.

As we look toward 2017, there is continued momentum in the progress we've made with the New Beginnings Campaign and shelter renovations. With your generous donations, Newhouse has successfully met the needs for perimeter security, added safety measures, and expanded programs for residents. As we move into the second phase of our campaign, we will focus on further shelter renovations but more importantly, staffing the expanding critical programs of care that help the women and children in shelter and allow them to thrive after they leave Newhouse. Through continued leverage of all our partnerships, Newhouse will continue to grow its vision of being "The best non-profit in Kansas City."

I have been so blessed and am truly fulfilled by my relationship with Newhouse, staff, and board of directors. We are a passionate group and thoroughly ready to tackle all the challenges and opportunities 2017 will bring.

Thank you for all your support and wishing you and yours a Joyous 2017!

Shelter Needs

Help us keep women and children warm with a donation of new or gently used twin size blankets. We are also collecting working and nonworking CELL PHONES to be recycled, which provide cash back to Newhouse. Organize a collection at your office, place of worship, or neighborhood.  Contact Cicelynn Elix, 816-462-0503 or [email protected] to arrange for a drop-off of donations.
