And ... Action! Video Shows Roxbury's Place in Lackawanna R.R. History
Enduring a cold December wind, rail historian Chuck Walsh recently stood at a spot in Roxbury that's dear to the hearts of many fellow American railroad enthusiasts: The westward launching point of the famous
Lackawanna Cutoff
.
The Walsh's video shot at Port Morris is the second in their series about the Cutoff, an engineering marvel that opened on Christmas Eve 105 years ago. By building the rail route between Roxbury and Pennsylvania, the Lackawanna created a flat beeline over valleys and through ridges, allowing high-speed trains to save substantial time compared to the prior circuitous route.

Townfolk Generosity Makes Roxbury Social Services Staff Feel Blessed
When the wave of holiday gifts and food began to arrive at Roxbury Social Services, Alana Hayford found herself awestruck. Now that it's over, she's still amazed at the generosity she witnessed.
On Wednesday, Hayford took a moment - on behalf of herself and Roxbury Social Services Director Janet Wald - to offer a message to the people and organizations that donated.
"We want to thank the community of Roxbury for all of their help and support through this holiday season," she said in a statement. "Honestly there are so many people to thank ... I'm not sure where to begin. Since this was my first Thanksgiving and Christmas working at Social Services it was very new to me and I can't begin to explain how overwhelmed I was with everyone's generosity. It was amazing!"
Signs Gently Remind: You're in Roxbury

Accents on Dance Upcoming Programs
Hip Hop Dance After School
Hip Hop is an eclectic street style of dance that is performed in running shoes to current upbeat tempos. The dynamic moves taught in Hip Hop class are fast, stylish, funky and similar to those seen in music videos.
This class is appropriate for high energy dancers that are driven by a beat. Similar to a Jazz class, Hip Hop is broken down into 3 parts - warm up, corner work/technique and choreography. Students in a Hip Hop class will work on their strength, flexibility, and musicality through intricate fun and fast paced funky choreography.
Since the tempos are usually quicker than any other dance form, the choreography in a Hip Hop class provides a great cardio workout and is also a fun way to exercise the mind and memory.
