THIS SUNDAY IN WORSHIP
JANUARY 8, 2017

EPIPHANY SUNDAY

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12

Epiphany (actually January 6th, but observed this year at Peace on Sunday, the 8th) celebrates the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child.  A star (or equally brilliant heavenly phenomenon) appears in the night sky, communicating big news.  It prompts a bold journey of adventure and revelation for some, and it greatly unsettles those who are invested in the status quo.  Even today, the Good News of Christ's coming sparks revelatory journeys for some and unsettling realizations for others.

Griefshare Classes Resume - January 12
Griefshare is a 13-week support group open to anyone who is dealing with the death of a loved one. It's a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult experiences.  You'll gain access to valuable resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life. You don't have to go through the grieving process alone. Our next class session will begin on January 12, 2017, meeting on Thursday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. For more information about this ministry, contact Gloria Barber at 407-276-4025.
Second Saturday Campus Work Morning - January 14
Every month we hold a second Saturday campus work morning. Our commitment is to have a specific list of chores or projects to complete each month, and that our work will begin at 8:00 a.m. and finished no later than 12:00 noon. This will be an opportunity for many people to contribute their gifts and time in a way that will be rewarding and fulfilling.  There is no obligation to show up every month.  No skill set or handy man capabilities required.  Just love for our church and the desire to serve. Hope to see you on Saturday, January 14th!
Peace 25th Anniversary Celebration - January 15
Peace United Methodist Church, our church family and friends, will be celebrating 25 years of ministry, fellowship, and memories on January 15, 2017.  We hope that everyone can join us (current members and friends, founding members and former families, and everyone from the surrounding community).  Dr. Bob Bushong, founding pastor of Peace, will preach for our special anniversary worship services and celebration of Baptismal Renewal.  A brunch on the Portico will follow each service.
Wednesday Connection Dinner & Game Night - January 18
On Wednesday, January 18th we'll be hosting our once-a-month Wednesday Connect event.  We provide the main meat dish, some bread, and the drinks; you bring all your favorite sides and desserts (and if you are on that busy schedule with no time to get a dish together, no worries-there will be plenty to eat).  The food line will be open beginning at 6:00 p.m. (we know some of you have trouble getting there by 6:00, so no worries-drop on in, the food will be waiting).  At 6:40, we'll start the festivities with our Old School Game Night, favorite board games and more for all ages.  You can bring in your family's favorite board games, and we will have plenty on hand, as well as some additional surprises. This is a regular monthly gathering, sharing a meal and focusing on something different each month (sometimes service-oriented, sometimes a special program, and sometimes just fun hanging out together). No advance sign-up necessary.  Bring the neighbors.

New Worship Series - "New Year, Same Promises"
"New Year, new you": this is the message we get from pop culture year after year.  We vow to make changes to our diet, exercise, habits, or lifestyle, but in spite of those resolutions, most things stay the same.  This may be cause for disappointments, but there is some consistency to celebrate.  God's promises to us do not change with the calendar or the latest fitness trend.  Rather than focusing our energy and attention on making (and in all likelihood breaking) promises to ourselves, let's spend the first part of the new year appreciating God's unbreakable promises and what they mean for how we live.

January 8: Epiphany Sunday; Celebrating the travels of the Magi to worship the Christ child

January 15: "God's Promise of New Life" (God gives us new life through the waters of baptism) Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows & Peace 25th Anniversary Celebration

January 22:"God's Promise of Faithfulness" (God is faithful, even when we are not)

January 29: "God's Promise of Sufficiency" (God will provide all our needs)

February 5:"God's Promise of Ministry" (God calls us & equips us to serve the kingdom)

February 12:"God's Promise of Blessing" (Something good emerges even from the dust of the dreadful)

February 19:"God's Promise of Freedom" (The choice is ours: Life or death?) Biker Sunday (now Full Throttle Sunday)

February 26: "God's Promise of Guidance" (Living in response to the gift of grace)
