International Week of Prayer Reconciliation
|
|
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Every
Sunday
as we pray the Nicene Creed, we say that "we believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic church." These words are reminder of the longing of Christians to be unified into God's church not divided by denominational boundaries or doctrinal disputes.
In our life time much effort has been made to breach the divides between denominations as the ecumenical movement has been inspired by the Holy Spirit. For example, the Episcopal Church has been in full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America for over 15 years.
This week we mark the International Week of Prayer for the Unity of the Church. This week of prayer has been celebrated for over 75 years as Christians from around the world are invited to specifically pray for the unification of God's church.
This year's theme is "Reconciliation- the love of Christ compels us" from 2 Corinthians 5:14-20. And in this spirit of reconciliation we are invited to pray these word from the prayer service for unity written for this week by the Graymoor Ecumenical Institute:
"Creator God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred that infects our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in your bonds of love. And even in our weaknesses work to accomplish your purposes on earth so that every people and nation may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne. Amen."
With every blessing,
Stephanie

New Neighbor to Neighbor Collection Box
Exciting news...We have a new collection box for Neighbor to Neighbor! The box is located in the same location as the barrel used to be (by Selleck Hall at the bottom of the stairs to the Day School) and should hold many more donations than the barrel did. When making your donations, please be reminded of the following:
- Clothing, shoes, hats, mittens and gloves from newborn up should be clean and seasonally appropriate
- Diapers, sheets, towels, SMALL household items and children's books are also appreciated
- When placing donations in the box, please make sure they are in a bag that can tie at the top (e.g. trash bag or plastic grocery bag)
You are always welcome to take your donations directly to Neighbor to Neighbor (especially if they are of the larger variety) at 248 East Putnam, on the right hand side of Christ Church.
