SOUTH FLORIDA HAITI PROJECT
Summer 2017 Newsletter

Dear Friends of South Florida Haiti Project,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are having a wonderful start of your summer. We are excited to be sharing the latest news about South Florida Haiti Project's abundant work at Bon Samaritain ("Good Samaritan" church and school) in Bondeau, Haiti. We have a lot updates from this first half of 2017. From roofing repairs, to solar panels,  to education and housing, South Florida Haiti Project is changing lives for the better in Bondeau--and we are glad you've been our steadfast partner along the way! Thank you, as always, for your support!

Teacher Training Program

This past February, we completed our second teacher training week led by our Teaching by Heart partners at Touissant L'Ouverture High School in Delray Beach, FL. Over 15 teachers in grades K-9 participated in the training. South Florida Haiti Project and Teaching by Heart for Haiti were delighted to bring professional development opportunities to the teachers and administrators of Bon Samaritan. Education is vital to the health and progress of any community and teachers. Their professional development is so critical to the strength of any school.

New Tiles in Church

The new church in Bondeau, the first built since the earthquake in the diocese, was dedicated in 2015. This Spring, new colorful tiles were installed over the previous concrete floor. Check out the photo of the new tiles!

Church powered by Solar Panels

The new church, which has been powered by the kerosene generator, is now being powered by solar panels.  Installation will be completed this month.

New Dormitory for the Boys

Kay Timoun Children's Home is constructing a new dormitory for the boys who are cared for in the home. Completion is expected by the fall of this year. We can't wait to see it!

New Wells for Bondeau

New wells are providing water for the Bondeau community.  This year, two new wells are providing water for washing and sanitation for the the community.  We partnered with Water for Small Villages to dig these new wells. The children love having the water pump close by.

New Roofs after Hurricane Matthew

New roofs have now been installed on the homes on the Bondeau campus.  In the fall of 2016,  Hurricane Matthew damaged the roofs of 40 homes on our campus.  Through generous donations, we
have been able to repair 22 roofs. The new roofs are metal, with metal reinforcement and rebar ties to the existing walls. More help is needed to complete the remaining roofs.  Please consider donating today to help us finish this project! CLICK HERE TO DONATE!
