Baptism of our Lord
baptism_lord
Throughout the Sundays after Epiphany, the lectionary readings feature stories in which Jesus is shown forth as Christ, our Savior. The gospel for this coming Sunday tells of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus and a voice from heaven naming Jesus the Son of God. We who are baptized are also called sons and daughters of God. Come to worship, to remember and celebrate your own baptism.

Sunday ReadingS:  ISAIAH 42:1-9   PSALM 29 1-4
ACTS 10:34-43  MATTHEW 3:11-4:1
GOD MEETS US
epiphany_star
During the season after the Epiphany, the church celebrates and reflects upon all the little epiphanies throughout Christ's ministry that make God's grace known. Jesus shows up at the wedding and keeps the wine flowing. He calls regular fishermen to be his co-workers. He announces good news to the poor and proclaims freedom for the captive. He ascends the mount of Transfiguration to hold conference with the ancient prophets-and then climbs back down to suffer in the midst of the crowds. Through all of this, we come to realize, with prodding by the Holy Spirit, that God is present-manifest-among even us, even now.

In the person of Jesus, God has chosen to meet us where we are. In spite of our imperfections, Christ moves in our midst. These epiphanies point us to him and stir our faith so that we may follow him ever more fervently. We make the connection  that in Christ, we see God at work.

Moravian Star hung for the Season of Epiphany
The Moravian star originated in Saxony, Germany, in the 1830s. The stars were used as craft projects to help demonstrate geometry lessons to young boys attending Moravian school. The stars were quickly adopted by the Moravian Church as a symbol of the birth of Jesus and represented the star of Bethlehem.

ST. PAUL BAPTISMAL FONT
The octagonal font was given to the church for the new sanctuary and dedicated to the Glory of God in 1995 by Earl and Doris Simoneau. Look for the continuation of the theme of baptism  and the physical attributes of the font in our Woodland Memorial Garden where you will find the same 600 million year old CT pink granite used for the base of the font in the bench and the two accent boulders in place.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW about the altar?

Altar  - derived from the Latin word alta, which means high.  Usually, the altar is on a raised platform known as a predella. Its height both enhances the dignity and significance of the Eucharistic table and enables the assembled congregation to see the actions at the altar.  Altars are structures upon which offerings and sacrifices .. .
