Student Kickoff on Sept. 12

LA Students for Life Kickoff Summit Sept. 12
High school and college students are invited to attend the Louisiana Students for Life "Pro-Life Kickoff Summit" at LSU on Saturday Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come out for a great day of pro-life training! We will have workshops covering topics including activism on campus, external affairs (legislation), pregnancy center resources, organizational skills, and more!

Planning Continues
for 40 Days for Life
Stand with us this fall to protect women and unborn children from abortion through inter-denominational prayer, peaceful vigil, and community activism.
The 2015 campaign is Sept. 23 through Nov. 1. Events are held in New Orleans, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge.
In Shreveport-Bossier, the kickoff rally will be Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Messmer Stadium in the Loyola Athletic Complex on Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway. Ramona Trevino, a former manager of a Planned Parenthood abortion-referral center, will be the guest speaker.
Also, Sidewalk Advocates for Life will be leading a training for new counselors this month. On Friday, Sept. 12 the training is at the Ark-La-Tex Learning Center, 1205 South Pointe Parkway, from 6-8 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 13 training is from 10 a.m. to noon at the center, followed by on-the-sidewalk training at the Shreveport abortion facility. A light dinner will be served Friday; breakfast will be served Saturday.

In New Orleans, a kickoff Sunrise Prayer Gathering is set for Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Metairie Ridgelake abortion facility.

In Baton Rouge, the fifth annual interdenominational
prayer service honoring the start of 40 Days for Life in the community will be held Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge.
There will be inspiring talks and beautiful music, and light refreshments will be served afterward in the Parish Activity Center.

House Republican leaders are planning a vote to freeze funding for Planned Parenthood this fall, according to GOP aides, a move that could help mitigate an inter-party battle and avoid a government shutdown. A bill to defund Planned Parenthood is expected to come up for a vote shortly after lawmakers return from recess. It would likely take the form of legislation which would block federal funding to Planned Parenthood for one year, although leaders are still weighing their options.
Doctors informed the couple early in the pregnancy that the baby will be born missing parts of her brain and skull and would live only for a few days, maybe only a few hours.

Planned Parenthood v. Jindal Round 1
This afternoon at a 1:30 p.m. hearing in federal court in Baton Rouge, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast will ask Judge John deGravelles, the same judge that should rule any day now on the case regarding the 2014 admitting privilege law, to temporarily prevent Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration from pulling Medicaid funds from the abortion business while further appe
als are argued.
Benjamin Clapper, executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, said, "It should be the prerogative of the governor of any state to prevent state funds from going to Planned Parenthood, a business that sells abortion and the parts of aborted babies. Abortion businesses and tax dollars should remain separate, and we hope the court system will honor that distinction. Sadly, we are not surprised at all that the Justice Department and the Obama Administration have sided with Planned Parenthood. President Obama has shown that his administration will do what is necessary to protect Planned Parenthood, even in light of nine videos exposing their ghastly business practices."
As the Jindal administration enters into legal combat with Planned Parenthood, Louisiana Right to Life is encouraging the pro-life people of Louisiana to thank Gov. Bobby Jindal for defunding Planned Parenthood.

Provides Burials for Indigent Babies

In 2003 Lise Naccari heard the story of a teenag g irl, 6 months pregnant, whose mother forced her to have an abortion in order to remain in her home. The girl had suffered through a gruesome experience, and she and the baby's father wanted a funeral for the baby. Naccari immediately knew she had to help.
"I remember how insensitive people were to my feelings of grief and loss of a child," said Naccari, who lost her own child to miscarriage on her 30th birthday. "I immediately knew I had to do this."
Since burying that baby girl, Naccari and members of the volunteer organization she founded,
Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies, have provided burial services for nearly 60 New Orleans-area babies whose families could not afford a funeral. Some of the babies were aborted, miscarried or born prematurely and did not survive, some were abandoned, and still others died at the hands of their mothers after their births.
One of those babies, Leann Yuri Jones, was buried by the group in June.
Leann was born in a bathtub to a mother who hadn't told anyone she was pregnant. Hours later the infant stopped breathing, and, instead of calling for help, the 22-year-old mother placed her inside a cardboard box, taped it shut and placed it by a trash compactor at her Slidell apartment complex.
When news broke of the baby's death and the mother's arrest, Naccari reached out to the baby's grandmother, who was grateful for the group's financial and emotional support. She and two other family members attended the service put together by CBIB. A priest presided, a member of the Knights of Columbus carried Leann's tiny wooden casket to a pedestal for the half-hour service, then the baby was buried about 50 feet away in an area of the Slidell cemetery reserved for children.
"Leann's grandmother was hit especially hard. She lost a grandchild and a daughter in one shocking event," said Naccari.
Naccari said this tragedy might have been prevented if the baby's mother had known about
Louisiana's Safe Haven Law, which allows new mothers to leave their babies at emergency rooms, police and fire stations and other designated places with no questions asked. Police said following the baby's death that the mother told them she felt she had no other options besides caring for the baby at home or letting her die.
CBIB is an all-volunteer ministry with a network of help, from those who identify needy families to funeral homes, cemeteries and individual families who provide burial plots or crypts. Volunteers make the tiny wooden caskets, each engraved with the name of the child and lined in white silk, and others sew the tiny burial dresses. They also make tiny "angel" dolls embroidered with the child's name to give to the mother at the funeral.
While many services are donated or greatly discounted, each funeral has a cost. Naccari said many times when she writes a check that about depletes CBIB's account, another donation will come in to cover it. "It's a journey of faith," she said.
Word about CBIB spread following the first few burials in 2003. It was then, Naccari said, that a female police officer called her and asked if she'd bury a baby who had been found in the trash, wrapped in a newspaper.
"She told me, 'I heard you do this,' which was strange because I didn't know anyone else knew about us," Naccari said.
The police officer told Naccari that when she was 16 she'd had a baby girl, who died at 28 weeks gestation. This baby girl was also 28 weeks, so it hit close to home with the officer.
"The police officer named her Hope," Naccari said.
Following Hurricane Katrina, CBIB buried the next four abandoned babies together.
"There were twins, full term, who were flushed down the toilet and found by a plumber," Naccari said. "There was a baby the size of the palm of your hand found in the sewer, and there was a baby with a mysterious cause of death and no parents to bury her."
CBIB made sure every baby had a name, and a local family donated a gravesite.
Years have passed since then, and the need is growing. In the past two years hospitals have begun turning to bury babies who were miscarried and whose parents could otherwise not afford a service. This has increased the number of burials, and in 2014 alone, CBIB buried 21 New Orleans area babies.
Each baby, each service and each grieving family is what keeps Naccari and CBIB going.
CBIB volunteers meet every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Center for Jesus the Lord Church, 1236 N. Rampart St., New Orleans. Anyone who would like to help is welcome to attend.

Rally Against Planned Parenthood on Sept. 10 in Baton Rouge, NOLA

 A small group of Planned Parenthood protesters stood outside the Governor's Mansion in July, protesting Gov. Bobby Jindal's decision to defund Planned Parenthood in the state. Instead of ignoring the protesters, Jindal's staff set up
a video screen and speakers to broadcast the videos that have documented Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of baby parts.
Now it's our turn. Pro-lifers will counter that protest on Thursday, Sept. 10, showing their opposition to Planned Parenthood's abortion and baby-parts selling business. Protests are planned that day outside Planned Parenthood Baton Rouge (3955 Government St., Suite 2) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the new Planned Parenthood construction site on South Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans from 5-6:30 p.m.
These protests are also being held in conjunction with
#WomenBetrayed: The Real Stories Rally and Lobby Day at noon that day in Washington, D.C. This event is hosted by
March for Life, Live Action, And Then There Were None, Americans United for Life,
Christian Defense Coalition, Stanton Health Care, Women for Quality Healthcare, Students for Life of America, Pro-Life Future and others.
The Washington rally will be held to urge Congress to defend the abortion business in this year's budget, and it will feature women who have been betrayed by Planned Parenthood. It will also feature GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)
There will be no official program of speakers at the local events, but supporters are urged to attend and stand in solidarity for the unborn and stand against Planned Parenthood.
