Gem Resolves Production Issue for Midwest Steel Stamping Company
For over 65 years, Gem Gravure has been providing the best printing technology and fluids for marking wire and cable. Gem's experience and expertise in industrial marking and coding made us a perfect fit to resolve a steel marking issue that Brickham Stamping Company was experiencing at their manufacturing facility in Oshkosh, WI.
The manufacturing team at Brickham Stamping needed to implement an effective ink marking system at their plant because their current stamping method wasn't able to successfully apply ink to a wide variety of steel products they were attempting to mark. The adherence issue was caused by rust preventive solution on the steel that prevented standard stamp ink from drying properly on the steel.
Using product samples provided by the Brickham team, the chemists at Gem reviewed several inks and their properties to determine which ink would work best for Brickham's application, despite the presence of the rust preventative. After a few successful samples were produced in our research & development lab, a full marking solution was presented to Brickham.
"Gem came up with an ink that does the job for us now... the moment a part number or a character is applied, by the time (the piece) comes off the end of the conveyor it's dry and you can't rub it off."
- Tim Schuster, Brickham Stamping Co.
Brickham Stamping Turns to Gem to Help Automate Their Process
In addition to resolving their stamping issue, the Brickham team turned to us to incorporate an alphaJET Continuous InkJet Printer into their stamping process to further enhance efficiency in their plant. Prior to automating their ink marking system, Brickham was stamping nearly 100,000 pieces a week by hand. As more and more of their customers were requiring identification markings, part numbers, and trademark stamping on the steel parts being stamped at their plant, Brickham turned to Gem's best-in-class technology to automate their ink marking system.
