The Children's Room Project is designed to renovate and enlarge the Children's Room at the back of the Library. Staying within the existing footprint, it will utilize existing cold storage space between the 1798 and 1811 buildings, resulting in an expanded program room and adding a small kitchenette and an ADA-compliant restroom. Wednesday, September 13 4pm in the Biography Room
Our book for September is
A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr. Tom Birkin, a veteran of the Great War, arrives in a remote Yorkshire village where he is to restore a medieval mural in the local church. Living in the bell tower, surrounded by the resplendent countryside of high summer, and laboring each day to uncover an anonymous painter's depiction of the apocalypse, Birkin finds that he himself has been restored to a new, and hopeful, attachment to life. But summer ends, and with the work done, Birkin must leave. Now, long after, as he reflects on the passage of time and the power of art, he finds in his memories some consolation for all that has been lost.

HOLMES & CO. Mystery Lovers Book Group |
Wednesday, September 20
4pm in the Biography Room
This month we will be discussing Before the Poison by Peter Robinson. A mesmerizing story-within-a-story about a man pulled into a murder from the past and his quest to uncover the truth. Chris Lowndes decides to return to the Yorkshire Dales after twenty-five successful years spent in Hollywood composing film scores. He purchases a charming old mansion deep in the country, but something about the place makes him uneasy. A complex, multi-layered thriller, one of Peter Robinson's most brilliant novels.

CLIO'S MUSE A History Reading Club |
Saturday, October 14 12:45pm in the Biography Room
The reading selection for August has been moved to our October meeting. The Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis will be discussed along with our October selection. The Silver Pigs introduces readers to Marcus Didius Falco, a private informer with a knack for trouble, a tendency for bad luck, and a frequently incovenient drive for justice. When Marcus encounters the young and very pretty Sosia Camillina in the Forum, he senses immediately that there is something amiss. When she confesses that she is fleeing for her life, Falco offers to help her and, in doing so, he gets himself mixed up in a deadly plot involving stolen ingots, dangerous and dark political machinations, and, most hazardous of all, a senator's daughter connected to the very traitors that Falco has sworn to expose.
The October selection: Istanbul: City of Majesty at the Crossroads of the World by Thomas Madden. For more than two millennia Istanbul has stood at the crossroads of the world, perched at the very tip of Europe, gazing across the shores of Asia. The history of this city--known as Byzantium, then Constantinople, now Istanbul--is at once glorious, outsized, and astounding. Founded by the Greeks, its location blessed it as a center for trade but also made it a target of every empire in history, from Alexander the Great and his Macedonian Empire to the Romans and later the Ottomans.

KNITTING GROUP
Every Saturday
10am-noon
The Stone Ridge Library Knitters meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12noon. All ages and experience levels can join us and drop-in knitters are also welcome. We each bring our own supplies and do our own work, but one of the best things about us is that whatever obstacle or confusion you might encounter, you're likely to receive as much comment and advice as you need to get where you're going with a project. Some of us can help toward the repair of knitted or crocheted items too.
The group is sociable and lively, and our conversation and sharing is just as wide-ranging as our projects. We are especially interested in the UFOs (Un-Finished Objects) that members bring in and love the show and tell of projects under way and being finished, new or old, simple or complex. Though knitting is our love and mainstay, we graciously adapt ourselves to stray crocheters and those of us who simply must take to the hook when the spirit moves. We share articles, magazines and books on knitting. Donations of yarn to the Library get made up into items for sale at the Library Fair and during the winter holidays for the benefit of the Library. Some of us also knit things for local hospitals or for the U.S. troops.
