Inclement Weather
During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system.  Other modes of notification include WSBA 910-AM, WGAL TV-8, and the YC website.  Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS.  The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern.  These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.
Spirit Shirt Friday
Tomorrow (Friday, January 6) is Spirit Shirt Friday.  Students may pay $1 in homeroom and wear their favorite YC spirit shirt in place of their uniform shirt. Students still must wear the standard uniform pants or skirt.  All money collected from this fundraiser goes toward the YC Technology Fund.

Students should wear their team uniform shirt for free admittance to the games.  Girls youth league basketball players are welcome to join the girls' team on Friday, January 20 vs. Bermudian Springs at the same times as noted above.
Mid-terms & Early Dismissals
Mid-term examinations for grades 9-12 are scheduled for Wednesday, January 11; Thursday, January 12; and Friday, January 13.  As a reminder, no trips will be approved during mid-term exams ( Student Handbook/Agenda pgs. 27-28).  Students will not be permitted to take a make-up exam due to a trip.

Two exam periods are posted each day.  Students who take more than one class in a major subject area will take the second conflict exam during the conflict time slot (11:00 AM -12:00 noon) on the day of their scheduled exam.  The exam schedule is as follows:

These exam days are half days with dismissal at 11:00 AM.  School districts will only pick-up at 11 AM.  Students testing in the AAC may be dismissed at a later time according to documented learning needs.

Junior High students will be on a half day schedule with an 11 AM dismissal as well.

All students are required to leave the building at 11 AM unless staying for a supervised activity.
Geography Bee
Numerous junior high students volunteered to participate in the annual Junior High Geography Bee scheduled for Friday, January 13, at 8:30 AM.  The junior high attends the event which quizzes students on their general knowledge of United States and world geography.  Questions start off as multiple choice, but as the Bee progresses, students must come up with the answer.  Each round of questions has a topic, like U.S. cities or geographical terms.  At the end of the preliminary rounds, the top 10 scores move on to the final round.  At this level, students are eliminated after they get 2 wrong answers, until we are down to 2 final contestants.  The final round questions are written and each contestant answers the same question.  The winner represents YC at the Diocesan Bee in Harrisburg and takes a written test to qualify for the State Bee.  Parents are welcome to attend the Bee on January 13.
Year-End Giving Thank You
Thank you to everyone who supported York Catholic's Annual Fund with a year-end gift. The Annual Fund supports the school's operating budget by providing money for professional development for teachers, academic/athletic/extracurricular programs, and financial assistance for students.  Thank you for helping to enrich our school for everyone!
Music Association Meeting
Parents of music and choral students are welcome to attend the York Catholic Music Association meeting on Tuesday, January 10, at 6:30 PM. The meetings usually last approximately one hour and everyone's input and feedback are welcomed and appreciated. Your help in planning and implementing the efforts of the YCMA are critical.
