Thoughts From Pastor Glen

My heart hurts for the thousands of flood victims affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our Hunger Jar offering this weekend will go to Lutheran Disaster Response, where every penny goes to help in the recovery process of this flood. Administrative costs come from another funding source, so there is no greater bang for the buck in helping the victims in Texas than supporting this fundraising effort. Please keep the people of Texas (victims & support teams) in your prayers as they scramble to put the pieces back together. If you'd like to donate to Lutheran Disaster Response online, you may do so here.

Have you purchased your God's Work. Our Hands. T-Shirt yet? These shirts will be worn as we tackle two major projects at the United Food Bank and Sunshine Acres on Saturday morning September 9th. Please remember and sign up in the Narthex. If you can't help Saturday, gather food and supplies for the House of Refuge. God's Work. Our Hands. is a program that is happening simultaneously throughout many ELCA Lutheran churches in the United States. Don't hesitate to sign up.

Bacon is the new chosen name for our church pig. Parents are asked to assist the kids in feeding Bacon. Bacon will be included in all Children's Sermons and Nite Lite offerings. Monies fed to Bacon will be used to purchase animals to sustain life for families in third world countries through Heifer Project International. This is a great program that changes the lives of poor families throughout the world.

Five new families moved through New Member Orientation last weekend. These new members will be installed at the services the weekend of September 9th-10th.  Please keep an eye out for these new faces and introduce yourselves to them as they join us in sharing the love of Christ.

Pictured left to right are: Teresa Cappelletty, Gordon Carpenter, Sharon Carpenter, Linda Seese, John Seese, Pastor Glen, Karla Palmer, Chris Palmer, Rani Browne and Ken Browne.

Our Ministry Site Profile Team is looking for your input each Saturday and Sunday.  Before each worship service there will half sheets of paper handed out with questions referring to the different elements of our congregation. The team wants to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to give your thoughts and opinions.

Confirmation and Nite Lite are ready to be launched beginning on Wednesday September 6th at 6:00 p.m. Rusty is still looking for teachers and helpers. If you think you could help, please contact the church office and Rusty will be in contact with you.

We will be looking for your blood on Sunday, September 24th from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. as the United Bloodmobile will be in our parking lot. Sign-up information will be coming soon!

Volunteer yard work is happening just about every weekend here at Spirit of Hope.  New member Brian Blad asked if I could recruit a couple of people to assist him in picking up the clipping and trimmed branches. If you think you could help, please contact the church office and we will put you in contact with Brian.

We shared a Laying-on-of-Hands for our pianist Michael Snyder on Sunday. While Michael was recovering from his surgery, he was offered a full-time job in a school district in McAllen, Texas. We will miss Michael and his honkey-tonk style. Please keep Michael in your prayers as he shares his talents in his new home.

It is my hope that you have all taken time to identify Jesus in your life. I agree with the Apostle Peter, that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of the living God. Look for Jesus, listen for Jesus and expect the one who died for you and me to be tracking with us every step of our journey.

Peace & love,
Pastor Glen
A Special Thank You
Through your generosity over the past few months, 20 SOH members were able to receive home cooked meals in their time of need, through our Seniors Rock Meals of Hope Program. Without your help we would have never been able to do what was so needed.  It was our pleasure to make the meals, which we will continue to do through the winter on an as needed basis. Please know how much the members that received them appreciated every single one. Thank you to Seniors Rock for always wanting to go the extra mile to help those in need.

God Bless,
Wendy Sontag
