Special Dress Code for Holiday Assembly
Please remember that children are required to follow the clothing guidelines for special occasions, which are outlined on page 68 of the DCD Handbook of Information. Students are required to wear coats and ties, dresses, skirts, or dress pants as well as appropriate footwear. Students who are performing will be notified by their teachers of any specific concert dress requirements. This year, black skirts will be added to the "blue blazer" closet, which is located in the Emmons Lobby outside Admissions. Parents are welcome to contribute as well as take items from this closet to meet these clothing requirements.
Please support the Annual Fund before New Year's!
Your gift or pledge before  December 31 will get us closer to our goals and will:
  • Provide charitable deductions for 2017 returns;
  • Alleviate the need to field additional calls/messages from your ambassadors;
  • Qualify for the raffle to win a Hot Air Balloon ride with Allison Webster!
With the stock market reaching record levels, donating appreciated securities can be an appealing way to make Annual Fund gifts.  It allows the use of pre-tax (before capital gains tax) dollars and provides full value of the gift for tax deduction purposes.
It's really easy, and the instructions are available on our website by clicking here.

Contact  Charles Rudnick, Director of Advancement,  [email protected] with any questions.

Shop on Amazon and Help DCD!
You can help DCD while you shop on Amazon this holiday season (and year round) - and it doesn't cost you anything! It's easy with  AmazonSmile, a simple and automatic way for you to support DCD every time you shop on Amazon. When you go to  smile.amazon.com,  you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection, and convenient shopping experience as you do on Amazon.com, with the added bonus that the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible purchases to DCD. On your first visit to AmazonSmile, select DCD from among the charitable organizations listed before you begin shopping. Then every eligible purchase you make at  smile.amazon.com  will result in a donation to DCD, supporting the people, programs, and activities that make this place so special!  Thank you for your support.

Important Carpool Reminder!
Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block the street while waiting in carpool. Please pull all the way to the right so that cars may pass and do not block the entrance to Stoney Lea Road.
Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day Information Forms
All returning parents should have received a letter in the mail regarding Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, asking you to review the information we have on file for your family (new parents received an electronic form to complete). You can write any corrections directly on the form included in the mailing and return it to us by mail, email, or in person, or contact Miriam Stulin in the Advancement Office with any updates or questions. We need every family to review this information so we can begin our planning for this memorable day - please return your forms as soon as possible, but no later than December 15th.

Invite Your Friends to Learn about DCD!
If you have a friend, colleague or neighbor you think might be interested in DCD, we'd love to invite them to our Off-Campus Admissions Coffee on December 12, hosted by the Schnitman family in their home in Wellesley. Please let Emilie Liebhoff know, and she will make sure they receive an invitation. Many of you have attended these coffees in the past as a prospective parent and know they are a wonderful way to hear from current parents about their DCD experience.
Community Outreach
Opportunity for Giving at Trim the Gym
The Community Outreach group will host a table at Trim the Gym on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. to make cards and pencil cases to send to the Antonio Rivera Elementary School in Corozal, Puerto Rico. via the organization United for Puerto Rico. This organization was started by First Lady Beatriz Rossello in the wake of the devastation of this year's hurricanes. Students are encouraged to donate $1 in order to make a card or decorate a pencil case, and we will also gratefully accept donations of school supplies like crayons and colored pencils.
News Flash
Fifth Grade Play
The magical world of Kenneth Graham's "The Wind in the Willows" was recreated by DCD's fifth graders. Their wonderful acting brought Badger, Toad, Ratty, Mole, and the Good and Bad Animals to life. Their dynamic dances and songs, which they themselves wrote, added a modern twist to this classic tale. Mrs. Rothwell even made a motorcar which Toad drove onto the stage, chased by Police Officers, played by Head of School Allison Webster and Head of Lower School Carla Haith.

Season's Readings
Author and illustrator Matt Tavares has produced one of the best picture books that celebrate Christmas in 2017.  Red & Lulu (Candlewick) is based around an annual Christmas tradition, the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.

Red and Lulu are a pair of cardinals who nest in a majestic tree in a yard. They enjoy all of the seasons, but especially the Christmas season when the family always trimmed their tree with lights. ...
