Do you regularly attend SDYS rehearsals? If so, please consider becoming an Ensemble Ambassador. You will  represent your student's ensemble, acting as a patriot for SDYS at weekend rehearsals, meet new people, build relationships, and liaise with the public

Ovation Program
Rehearsal Update

Due to many academic tests and school actives taking place this week, we will be cancelling the  Chamber  Orchestra  rehearsal which was scheduled for Thursday, January 19.

Also, the outreach concert originally scheduled for  January 22, 2017  has been postponed.  It has been moved to  Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 4pm  and will be for Wind Orchestra musicians only.  Dress rehearsal and call times will be announced at a later date.

February 12 Ovation Concert Call Times

On Sunday, February 12 Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert at Copley Symphony Hall. Concert attendance is required for all performing Ovation Program musicians.  There will be a dress rehearsalprior to the concert, and as a reminder, any musician who misses the dress rehearsal will forfeit participation in the concert.  Please remember that it is SDYS policy for all musicians to stay for the entire concert, being respectful of your conductor and fellow musicians.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra musicians should arrive to the dress rehearsal in concert dress.
Please note that once you check in, you will stay backstage and will not be released until after the concert. We recommend you bring a light dinner/snack to have in the green room during the break. SDYS will provide drinking water to all musicians. The concert will end at approximately 6:00PM

We do have bow ties and tights in stock for $5 each, available at rehearsals.
Concert Parking

The Jacobs Music Center is located on B Street between 7th and 8th Avenue. The backstage door where you will drop off and pick up your musicians is located on 8th Avenue between A and B Street.

There is no stopped parking allowed at the backstage door. Curb fronts are reserved for active loading and unloading only.

Tickets for the Winter Ovation Concert will be on sale through SDYS until 12 noon on  Thursday, February 9. After 12 noon on February 9 you can purchase tickets at the Jacobs Music Center Box Office at 619-235- 0804. Jacobs Music Center will charge $5 more per ticket. Student/child tickets will remain the same price at $10.

Season Pass 2016-17 is available for purchase at a discounted rate for the remainder of the season! Click on the link above to purchase.

National Symphony Orchestra
Summer Music Institute

A four-week full scholarship festival of music for young orchestral musicians ages 15-20, the NSO Summer Music Institute (SMI) includes private lessons and side-by-side orchestra rehearsals with NSO, master classes, seminars, chamber music, SMI orchestra performance, and other performances opportunities.

Abraham and Lilian Turk Scholarship Program

The program was created in memory of Abraham and Lillian Turk who believed that every person, regardless of his or her financial means, was entitled to an equal opportunity for a post high school education. The program provides up to 20 scholarships each year, of up to $10,000 each, to San Diego graduating high school seniors and those who have graduated within the last five years and have not yet attended a post high school institution, to attend a two-year or four-year college or a technical or vocational school, who meet the program requirements.

The 6th Annual "Heart of a Child" benefit concert will be held the evening of Saturday, April 22, and video auditions are currently being accepted for soloists and small groups. From the Top Scholarship

For more than 15 years, From the Top has celebrated and promoted outstanding young musicians through their NPR radio show and arts leadership programs. In 2005, a partnership with the Jack Ken Cooke Foundation was born, one that would help From the Top identify deserving young musicians with financial need, and offer them a scholarship that would change their lives.  Students can apply for the March 1 deadline. ArtsBridge Summer Chamber Orchestra

Students who successfully audition into the ArtsBridge Summer Chamber Orchestra will explore both traditional and contemporary chamber orchestra repertoire conducted and led by Ben Bolter, Co-Director of the Contemporary Music Ensemble at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music.
