My Journey to the Northwestern MEM Degree:
An Acceleration Process
A Blog Article Written by Current Student Ivonne Friday

Current MEM Student Ivonne Friday has had quite an experience over the past two years as she pursues her MEM degree.  She has both sought new skills in MEM while also exploring new career options.  The MEM Program asked Ivonne to write a blog article describing her experiences: " I knew that technology, methodologies and procedures at work change constantly.  In order to move forward to a job combining my engineering skills and past experiences, I needed to boost my education."

If You're an Inventor, Beware. What Happened to Me Could Happen to You.
Professor Dan Brown Writes OpEd in Crain's Chicago Business

MEM Professor Dan Brown recently shared his entrepreneurial roller-coaster experience in an opinion article for Crain's Chicago Business.  In the article he discusses his long fought patent case over his Bionic Wrench with Sears Holdings.  It is amazing to have MEM faculty that can bring real-life experiences to our courses, including this past summer's offering of MEM417: Product Development.  An excerpt from Professor Brown's article:

I am the inventor of the Bionic Wrench. It's an all-in-one tool that replaced the need for wrenches of various sizes by adjusting automatically to any size nut. I brought it to the market in 2005, and it was a hit from the start.  Then in 2011, after proving an American-made product would sell, we secured a contract with Sears to sell my invention in its stores during the Christmas holiday season, backed by TV promotions. The Bionic Wrench knocked it out of the park, outselling all other products, including Craftsman tools, and was the most-profitable seller in the category. We were on our way, with dreams of expansion and job creation right here in the U.S.
