SUMMER NEWS
Guild members represented Arkansas at Conference in Detroit, officers worked on the nuts and bolts of making the Guild run smoothly and much planning was underway.

Dr. Ouida Keck, ASOG President
WELCOME, FROM OUR NEW GUILD PRESIDENT
Dr. Ouida Keck began her 2017-18 tenure as Guild President in June.

I am very honored to be serving as your ASOG President for 2017-18.  Being part of an organization which supports the ASO by raising funds, supporting music education in our state, and encouraging audience development is a challenge and a privilege. But serving as President this year is a real high point for me, since this year marks the ASO Guild's 50th anniversary! A special thank-you to Betty Herron and Beth Nyhus for agreeing to Co-Chair our celebration activities.  There has never been a better time to be a part of Guild between this and our Designer House fundraiser, chaired by Paige James, in the spring. We are also very fortunate to have Camille Williams serving as Editor of this quarterly publication. Be sure to check your e-mail for monthly newsletters from me during the months when Guild Notes is not published.  Join us as we continue our on-going projects, and enjoy many unusual and exciting events as we celebrate being 50 years young!

An ASO musician (or two or three!) plays for us at every Guild meeting. It sounds so beautiful in the intimate space of a home. Don't miss these 'concerts' just for Guild members.

Here ASO harpist Alisa Coffey  played for our April meeting at the home of Susan Marsh.

She broke a string, quickly restrung it and kept on going.
SUMMER NEWS

Paige James gave the presentation at Conference with over 80 orchestra volunteers from all over the country in attendance. 50th Anniversary of the Guild Celebration Planning

Betty Herron and Beth Nyhuss are heading up a committee to plan activities to celebrate the Guild's 50th anniversary over the coming year. The first meeting was August 29. Please let Betty or Beth know if you would like to be involved.  We need all yearbooks before 1971, 1981-82, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, and 2009-2010.

Website Update

Our ASO Guild website has been completely updated and brought up to date. Check it out HERE

Bylaws Revision

Our Guild Bylaws also got revised and updated this summer. We will be voting on the revised bylaws at the fall luncheon. Thanks to Sherry Shinn for her work on this.
The primary changes the President has requested, and the Board has approved, are as follows:
  1. Drop the Executive Committee.  Reason being that the Executive Committee consists of almost the entire Board with the exception of the Second, Third and Fourth Vice Presidents, the Assistant Treasurer and the Fund Raising Chair. Several of the by-law changes you will vote on will simply be the deletion of the phrase "the Executive Committee".
  2. Add a courtesy membership with the stipulation that a courtesy member cannot vote or hold office.
  3. Add a paragraph to address board resignations and absences.
  4. Change the definition of a quorum at membership meetings from 10% to a majority of members present.
  5. Add a paragraph that stipulates that all website submissions should go through the President.
Please take a moment to read them over
HERE before we vote. Changes are in red.
