Edith Rutledge Funeral Service

A funeral for our beloved sister, Edith Rutledge, will take place at St. James on Saturday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to St. James Episcopal Church.  A catered reception will take place in the Parish Hall immediately after the service.

The Rutledge family sincerely appreciates our prayers during this difficult time.

Back By Popular Demand: Current Events & Christian Faith Returns This Sunday

Current events impact us as workers, parents, voters, taxpayers, and citizens. Each of our roles gives us a different perspective on the news. What perspective might we have if we considered current events as Christians?

The group who met this past Sunday to discuss how our faith might engage the world around us, we felt as though we needed more time to fully explore the issues before us. Join  Deacon Roger and  Mother Rebecca again this Sunday for a continuation of the conversation!

This Sunday, January 22 at 9:05 a.m. in the Chapel.

St. James Annual Meeting - Sunday February 5

The Annual Meeting of St. James Parish will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 following the 10:00 am service. The Annual Meeting is our opportunity to hear the reports of various ministries and how the church is faring.

Another important part of the meeting is the election of four new Vestry members to replace our retiring members, and five delegates to the Diocesan Convention later this year.

Following the meeting we will share a pot luck lunch in the Parish Hall. This is one of the few times we have for all of our members to get together and socialize. It is your opportunity to meet those who go to a different service or come from a different age group. We hope you will all be sure to come to the annual meeting and pot luck lunch in order to learn more about your Parish and Parish Family.

St. James Vestry Nominees 2017

Gayla Rae Burgess
Hi! I am a feisty 74 year old retired Dallas ISD Principal, fine artist and home remodeler. I joined St. James five years ago, and have served the church as a Lay Eucharist Visitor, singer in our wonderful Choir, Daughter of the King, and in supporting roles such as pumpkin-seller, and champagne pourer. I was confirmed at age 12 in St. Matthews Cathedral. I was married for 40 years - and yes, to the same man! We had two children and I have one precious grandson, Tony, who just turned nine.
Twenty-eight years of working for the children in the highest crime, drug, and child abuse area of Dallas, have prepared me to interact with all kinds of people. I have also been a VITAS Hospice Volunteer, and was honored to be Teacher of the Year, Skyline Center 89-90, and DISD Principal of the Year 06-07. I am computer literate, with a background in communication and advertising; finance and budgeting; facility maintenance; supervision, evaluation, and instruction; y hablo espaƱol.
You know, a church is made up of its people and the gifts they have been given by the Holy Spirit; so as we say in Curcillo, "Here I am Lord!" Use me as you will.

Cathleen Dolt
I was raised as an Episcopalian and have been a member of St. James since 1999.  I am married to Garrett Dolt and we have two teenage daughters - Caitlin and Audrey.
In the past, I have been active in various parish ministries, including the St. James School Board (2003-05) and 2 terms on St. James' vestry, serving as Sr. Warden (2007) and Treasurer (2002-2005).  I have had the honor of representing St. James as a delegate at Diocesan Convention since 2008.  Before that, I served on the Rector Search committee, as a PCOV chair, founding member of St. James' 20/30 Somethings (fore-runner to Little Lambs), Usher, and on a team for the Austin Street Shelter.  Since 2009, my volunteer ministry has been primarily at the Diocesan level, serving on the Finance Committee (2009-present), Audit Committee (2010-13), Executive Council (2011-14), Standing Committee (2014-present), as Assistant Treasurer (2014-present), as one of 4 lay delegates representing EDOD at National Convention (2013), and as a member of the Diocesan Strategic planning committee (2016).
With the exception of Finance Committee, my Diocesan service is expected to conclude in 2017.  After prayerful consideration of what's next in my service to God's church, I have felt called to return back to parish ministry.  I believe that God has blessed me with the gifts of leadership, financial administration, and free time in which to volunteer for causes that I am passionate about.  If I am elected to Vestry, I pray my actions and decisions will help our church and bring glory to God.

Freddie Halsted
I grew up in Lake Highlands attending St Johns Episcopal Church and school where I was confirmed and was an acolyte. I graduated from Lake Highlands High School and later the University of Oklahoma. My wife, Amy Caron and I have attended St. James since 2008. We have one beautiful daughter, Allie Cate, who attends St. James Montessori and was baptized in the church.

After stints with a couple sports teams and the Dallas 2012 group I began a 13 year journey with Dallas ISD teaching 7th grade Texas History where I met my wife. In 2013 we decided to change gears and we opened our first Mathnasium in Lake Highlands. We recently bought the center in Lakewood and now own or run 3. I look forward, elected or not, to becoming more involved in St. James. We feel truly blessed to have found such a wonderful church family and I want to use all of my talents to help it in any way I can.

Ryan Showers
I have been a member of St. James since Kara and I were married here in 2009.  Kara and I have two daughters, Emma and Alexis, who were both baptized here. St. James is the first church where I have really ever experienced a sense of community and a home.  I have volunteered for Austin Street shelter, Children's Chapel, and as a Sheep Wrangler at the Christmas pageantI also came in second place in the Chili Cook-off last year.

Outside of church, I am an engineering manager for Vinson Process Controls in Lewisville.  I have been with them for 19 years.  I have served on an advisory board for Texas State Technical College for the past 10 years.  I graduated from the University of Texas in 1998 with a degree in chemical engineering and was in the Longhorn Band.  I am a devout Longhorn and Rangers fan.  And Kara has turned me into a Baylor supporter.  I love spending time with my family and I see volunteering at church as a quality way to increase our time together.

I am honored to be nominated for the St. James vestry.  If elected I pray that my actions will better our church and continue to build our programs for families and children.

Do You Have A Prayer Request?

Prayer requests
St. James is a community characterized by prayer. Please share your prayer concerns with us: it is our joy to lift up your prayer concerns to the Lord just as we lift up our own. We welcome you to bring these concerns to our clergy or the church office or you can share them with us on a prayer request form (located in the entry to the Church) or through our website under the heading "Connect."

James 5:13-14 Are any among you suffering? You should pray... Are any among you sick? You should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.
