IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER
In Case of Inclement Weather . . .

With bad weather being forecast for this weekend, here are several options to find out whether services will be cancelled this Sunday, January 8.

If the weather is too treacherous for travel, a notice of cancellation of services will be posted on the church website:  Also, a notice will be sent out through our Grapevine bulk email service as soon as decision has been made. If you have received this email, you will receive a notice.

You may also click here (the WSPA Channel 7 website) to see if services have been cancelled.
THIS WEEK'S THOUGHTS TO PONDER

Faith is journey, not a destination . . .

Journey is not a word that we fully understand in our western world. For us to journey is to travel on a bus, car or plane, we travel to get somewhere - the destination is what matters and how fast we can get there.

Our faith journey is altogether different. We are invited, as individuals and as a community of faith, to seek and listen for God's guidance . . . and then to follow wherever God leads.

Reflection: How is God guiding us, the faith community of Saint Mark, as we continue on this journey together at the turn of a new calendar year?

Beyond a Broken Heart
A Journey Through Grief
Faith-based Grief Group
Begins on Tuesday, January 10

10:00 am
Room A202
Cost: $13.00
(includes the cost of the book)

"We grieve because we love." How does the heart understand grief when it is broken by the death of a loved one? To survive and live forward, those who grieve must find answers. As we grieve, slowly we understand that grief is not a crisis of faith - it is a crisis of the heart.

Here you will find comfort, guidance, and spiritual support on your journey through grief. The hope is that our time together will lead you toward renewed hope and fullness of life as you emerge at last from the darkness of grief into the light of new life, your soul restored through the steadfast love and faithfulness of God.

For more information or to sign up for this group, click here to contact Margaret Axson.

We Still Need Host Homes!
"Children of the World"
International Children's Choir

Saint Mark will present  the "Children of the World" choir in concert on Wednesday, February 1 for our RENEW program. The choir is made up of incredible children from Uganda, Nepal, the Philippians, and Honduras. We are in need of a total of six families who would be willing to host two or three children, or two children and a female chaperone in their home for two nights (January 31 and February 1).

Host families will provide meals for children and chaperones while in their homes. On Wednesday, activities will be planned for the children during the day, and they will be fed lunch and supper at the church. Please note: All host families are required to have a background check that Saint Mark will provide.

To learn more about World Help or Children of the World, please click here. If you would be interested in hosting children, please contact David Wilcox (864) 882-2603 or click here to respond by email.

Marvin's Kids Shoppers

If you chose to be a Marvin's Kids shopper and you shopped with your family at Walmart, please be sure to return your Walmart receipt, along with Walmart cards that still have an unused balance.  Drop both of these items off at the church office at your earliest convenience.  Thanks so much!  Got questions?  Click here to contact Carolyn Keese.
Attention Church Leaders!

Thank you for your leadership at Saint Mark UMC!  When you are scheduling team meetings, please be sure to contact Operations Manager, Karen Holcombe in the church office to place your meeting date, time and location on the church calendar. Reservations are first come, first confirmed.  This will help teams to have no conflicts of meetings times and locations and will also enable the church office to publish meetings times and dates as reminder for team members.  Karen Holcombe can be reached at (864) 882-2603 or click here to send her an email.

Generous Hearts!

Thanks to everyone who gave to our special alms offering on Christmas Eve to support the Pastor's Discretionary Fund.  The Pastor's Discretionary fund is used by the Pastors to give aid to persons who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances and in need of immediate financial assistance.  Total given at all three services was $1,276.75. The 9:00 pm service gave $998.75, half of which was sent to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund at New Harmony UMC.

May God bless you for your generosity!
