The Wave
December 8, 2017
We are very glad to celebrate with you the amazing work that has been completed over the course of Term 1! Without a doubt, there were moments of brilliance, moments of self -doubt, moments of self talk that brought your students up and also brought them back below the line - - regardless of all of this, the best message that we all can give always and forever - is that we believe in their ability to be brilliant.  We do and we see it daily.  Thank you for taking your kids somewhere special to discuss their term report card.  They are 2 weeks into the second term, so as you set goals together,  be sure to look at Chalk!

We will be sending a survey to you with the report cards - we would love to have your feedback.  Thank you and we wish you a quiet and lovely weekend ahead.

We will be sending the report card to you via email. Please let us know if you do not receive your students!  We sent you a Currents on Tuesday of this week to help you understand the curriculum of Term 1.

Send your order into the office and you can pay by cash or check to the school, or make your payment through the website!
Parent Group Meeting
The Parent Group has been meeting in small committee groups to plan some fun events this year! Thank you to all who helped with Friendsgiving!  The next committee is just getting started to plan a Parent Fun Night.  There were a number a great ideas proposed for this at the initial Parent Group Meeting in October.  If you would like to join in the planning, please come to the meeting on Mon, December 11th at 10:00 am.  We are meeting in the Community Room at the West Linn Library.  Hope to see you there!
Missed School Days?
If a student misses a school day, homework can always be found on Google Classroom. Teachers update these each day for every class. There is no need to request homework from the school, as it will all be listed there. All a student needs to do is log into their Google account and the info will be there for when they are feeling well enough to do some catch up. We encourage kids do do this on their own, to take responsibility for the time & work missed. As stated in the school policies, a student has as many days as they miss to make up their work without it being considered "late".

Holiday Gift Cards!
Are you done with your holiday shopping? Do you want a to earn money towards ODS? Scrip to the rescue! Each Tuesday by 10:00 am,  we need your Scrip order for the week. What a huge way to support your outdoor school account, if you are in 6/7/8. All you do is select what you need, we order and pick up and send home Thursday with your kids.  It is so easy and a few families have made quite a dent in their ODS fees! A great one to order right now is Columbia - you earn 12% of your purchase, plus get a pass to the Columbia employee store! Win-win!

Report Cards Emailed
Report cards were emailed to parents today! Please contact the office if you did not receive a report card for each student(s). To open the document, you simply use the student's birthday in this format: xx/xx/xxxx. We have also included a link to a  short survey. We hope that you take the time to invite your kids for hot cocoa and celebrate their huge successes!  We are proud of each and every student!  They all improved and should feel great about the movement forward.
Swimming Ahead!
When we return to school in January, it will be just a couple of short weeks before we head off to the Clackamas Aquatic Center for our annual PE unit in the pool. This means all students need to have swimsuits that are modest and fit them well. If your child experienced a growth spurt this fall, those summer swimsuits may not fit anymore! Please take the time in the next few weeks to check into this and make sure your student is well prepared for the week of January 16th when we head to the pool!

Staff Holiday Wishes
It is a wonderful time of  the year to wish our staff a lovely holiday!  We ask that you do NOT send in any gifts during this season.  We would much rather that you buy a toy and drop it in the Toy Drive in the name of the entire staff.  We know that we have so very much, we are absolutely thankful for that.  We hope that we can spread that cheer to the kids of the Community Transitional School.  Please help us with the toy drive - that is just enough!

Toy Drive Extended!
Leadership students Milli Doblie, Katie Laidlaw, Sofia Brevis and Avery DeVincenzi have worked hard to motivate and energize our students to give to the Community Transitional School. With your help, they collected so many toys to donate to the homeless children that CTS serves!. We have extended the toy drive for one more weekend to see if we can get even more! Please consider donating: Legos, games, puzzles, popular small toys like Shopkins, or dolls with a variety of skin colors. They will also appreciate donations of wrapping paper and tape!

I-205 Update!
We have recently received information from the Oregon Department of Transportation that we need to share with our families. There are plans to widen I-205 to improve congestion, traveler safety, and seismic resiliency on the seven miles from Stafford Road to OR 99E (near the Abernethy Bridge). This likely will impact many of our lives, particularly transportation to and from TRCS in the coming years. Please read the newsletter they sent to us or visit their website to stay informed of the proposed solutions.
