gs Teacher Training, 2015
|
Friends,
In 2008, 3 years before gs Teacher Training would officially launch, a small group started to develop as gs teachers. We lovingly refer to this group as "the originals." Lisa Thomas-Adeyemo was one of those mighty few who charted the path for the now, over 45 folks who today are in gs Teacher Training.
Lisa is a lead teacher in Somatics & Trauma (S&T), an 18-day program during which participants take a deep dive into healing from the impacts of trauma and oppression. Lisa brings the depth and rigor necessary to lead Somatics & Trauma, and in all her work with gs, Lisa brings a steady love.

Somatic Bodywork Intensive, 2017
|
 |
In 2012, when we were hiring the first paid gs staff, we knew we wanted Lisa on our team. She told us she wanted to join the gs staff, because she knew it would support her own growth, and because she knew she had an important contribution to make to the shape gs was taking. She was right. Lisa supported gs inside a half time position focused on enrolling and coordinating S&T, gs practitioner development, supporting movement partnerships, and other program work. In addition to her staff role, Lisa shared her time & skills supporting critical work with individual clients, and teaching with gs and with Black Organizing for Leadership & Dignity (BOLD).

Somatic Healing Team in Ferguson, MO - March 2015
|
Now, five years later, gs is in an important conversation with all of our leadership about what our right roles are in this new phase of the organization. Six months ago, Lisa approached us to begin these conversations regarding her right role & contribution to gs. We came to the conclusion the best use of her wisdom and passion would be to turn more of her time and energy towards teaching and client and small group work. So this Fall, Lisa transitioned out of her staff role at gs.
We will be in deep partnership with Lisa for many years to come. And still, it is a significant change to not have Lisa on staff - bringing her steady
love, competence, perspective, and her deep healing ground to staff meetings and the daily workings of the organization.
