Judy Taylor
President

Habersham County Chamber of Commerce

How long have you been
in the Chamber profession
?
In my 9th year

How long have you been in your current position?
9 years

What do you love most about your job?
Community involvement, working with business and industry, and leadership development. Prior to this position, I was a vice president of economic development with one of Georgia's technical colleges. My career has been centered around working with business and industry and community involvement. I love helping and watching small businesses start and grow, the feeling that I am helping people connect with other people / businesses through our never-ending networking, and watching leadership develop from our Junior Executive Board of high school students to Leadership Habersham comprised of business and community leaders.

Tell us about your most embarrassing Chamber moment.
Emails going to the wrong person. When a name populates on the "To" line from one or two initials, and I don't catch that it's the wrong name. Luckily no sensitive information has been disclosed, but it is embarrassing when that person sends back the email saying, "Did you really mean for this to go to me?"

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and how
My husband! He is always encouraging and supporting me and making me believe I could do whatever needed to be done. He and I both are former educators, and we still love mentoring and encouraging our youth.

What is your Chamber's signature event?
Habersham Freedom Run. This is one of our 3 major fundraisers. However, the proceeds benefit the Habersham Veterans Wall of Honor as well as the Chamber's community and educational projects.  Veterans are highly involved and recognized at the run.  It is an awesome, patriotic 5k and Fun Run that the community gets behind because it supports our veterans.

What is your favorite vacation destination and why
Well I want to say the mountains so others will come here. However, since I live here, my favorites are both Savannah and Charleston - just love historic destinations on the water. Also, Ireland. I am Irish, and I feel a connection with that country when I go there.

Tell us about your family and what you like to do in your spare time...
I have one daughter who has always been my pride and joy. My husband and I enjoy Bridge with other couples and hiking in these beautiful mountains.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a journalist. However, after working for a newspaper for a short while, I found out I loved the work but not the pay.
