The new calendar year brings new opportunities in the STEMM fields. Here are some great ideas to get your child involved in STEMM this semester:
  • WPAFB Wright Scholar deadline is Monday, Jan. 9. Click here for the requirements for this paid summer internship.
  • All high school students are invited to participate in the AIA Dayton Art in Architecture Design Competition and design an outdoor performance park and plaza for downtown Dayton. The registration deadline is Jan. 20. Details can be found here .
  • Applications to be a "Summer Volunteen" at Dayton Children's Hospital are available for one week only beginning Feb. 1. Details can be found here .
  • Registration opens in mid-January for the University of Dayton Explore Engineering Day on Saturday, Feb. 25. Details can be found here .
There are also opportunities for students to earn service hours by helping with CJ STEMM community outreach events:
  • Girl Scouts We Love STEM event Saturday, January 28,
  • Bishop Leibold Science Fest Thursday evening, February 16,
  • TechFest weekend of February 18-19,
  • Hoopla STEM Challenge at CJ Sunday, March 12
  • St. Albert Science Night Tuesday evening, March 21
Students should contact me if they are interested in volunteering at any of the above events.

Additionally, all students can learn more about STEMM careers through the STEMM Idol Speaker Series. Sessions are held during homerooms on select Tuesdays through April. Students should watch the science bulletin boards, daily announcements, and student news site for updates.

Message for Parents of Students Who Ride With RTA
The union representing bus drivers for the Greater Dayton RTA has scheduled a strike starting Monday, Jan. 9. Union representatives and RTA leadership are scheduled to meet on Sunday to attempt to avoid a strike. Parents of students who take the RTA should monitor local media on Sunday and Monday for news about the possible strike and have alternative transportation arrangements in place starting Monday morning in case the situation remains unresolved.

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
Happy New Year!  I'm sure we've all made some resolutions - exercise more, get organized, etc. But, have you made any resolutions for your spiritual life? Maybe spend a little more time in prayer, frequenting the Sacrament of Reconciliation, or joining us for morning Mass in the CJ chapel at  7:20   on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. May we all grow closer to our Good God and experience God's peace, mercy and love in the New Year.
