ClassE is where we grow entrepreneurs and nurture success. Read about what we have been learning.

Location: Lifespan Center (unless noted below), 11021 E. Cty. Rd. 800 N. Charleston (Loxa Rd just northeast of SBLHS).  Class is open and everyone is welcome.
Learning How to Make the Bagels

Nancy Bruner, quality manager, and supervisor Alan Guyon, told us that the Lenders Bagel facility began as a research and development plant for Kraft Foods before it became the largest bagel line in the United States. Their parent company has a business strategy of restoring iconic brands. They employ 235 employees and run three shifts.

They discussed the Food Safety Modernization Act and their growth in the french toast line.
Thinking Through the Income Statement

Ann Deters, CEO of Vantage Outsourcing, walked the class through the decisions that need to be made when creating an income statement. She provided an Excel spreadsheet that let the student forcast their profits based on various prices, sales and expenses.

Learning How to Grow a Business

Dan Paulson began working at Wave Graphics 20 years ago after graduating high school.  Doug, Dan's brother and manager of the Mattoon facility, discussed how they grew this business into an offset as well as a screen print business.  They continually are looking for businesses to purchase and have even created a new Customer Relationship Management system they are selling to the real estate industry.

Students learned about how important it is to pick up the phone and make sales calls, diversify your customer mix and make every second of the day count.

We are so thankful for the generosity of the Coles County businesses that sponsor ClassE. We hope you support them as they support us!
