The last bird walk of 2016 was a memorable one indeed. I received a most wonderful letter from Kerry C. this week thanking us for our bird walk posts and slide shows. Family issues keep her at home and she was so appreciative of being able to go on a virtual bird walk every week with us. I read her letter to the Saturday Birders before we headed out and we spent her gracious gift at the Meadow Mountain Café in Allenspark during the walk. A wonderful way to close out 2016. Thank you Kerry!

divide is too fierce. However, they do show up at feeders in the high country which is where we saw them today outside of the Fawn Brook Inn. Gray-Crowned Rosy-Finches are quite striking with their combination of gray, rich browns, and rose colors. They show up quickly, en masse, and they leave the same way, often wheeling around and landing again soon after the take off. A bit jumpy. Customers sometimes refer to house finches as "rosy" finches, but they are quite different from the true rosy-finches.
