Undergraduate Research Information Sessions
The
Undergraduate Research Office (URO) offers many resources to help you get involved in research or begin your own research project. Start by attending an
Information Session
where you will learn how to develop a research topic, find a research mentor and explore resources.
All sessions are held in Room 070/090 of the 18th Avenue Library with the exception of the February 6 session that will be held in Room 150 A/B of Thompson Library.

Ohio State Summer Research Fair

Writing a Successful Abstract
Are you interested in presenting your research at a poster forum or conference? Learn from a faculty member about strategies for writing a research abstract in any field and develop the skills to compose a strong abstract. There will also be a brief overview of the guidelines for applying to present your research at the annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum.

Social and Behavioral Sciences Undergraduate Research Grants
Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Undergraduate Research Grants support students with a declared major in social and behavioral sciences and whose research projects involve extraordinary costs. These grants are offered twice each year.

Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships
Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarships support students who have attained junior standing and meet one of the following criteria: are a potential candidate for graduation with research distinction or with honors research distinction or present other evidence of work on a significant research project. Applicants must have a faculty advisor with whom they work to devise and refine a proposal, and who will be responsible for overseeing the project once it is underway. These scholarships are offered twice each year.

International Research Grants for Undergraduates in Arts and Sciences
International Research Grants support arts and sciences students who will engage in research in international venues with their faculty mentors. These grants are offered twice each year.

These grants are offered twice each year and are awarded on a competitive basis to majors in the arts and in the humanities.

Arts Undergraduate Research Scholarships
These scholarships are offered twice each year. They support students who are pursuing a degree in the arts and will be working on a creative or research project by autumn semester of the last year of their major program.

Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund
This fund is designed to enhance opportunities for undergraduate students in arts and humanities to pursue and promote significant accomplishments in their fields of study. These grants are awarded twice each year.

Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship
The Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship supports undergraduate arts and sciences students, with a preference for junior or senior women who are majoring or minoring in the sciences, who have a passion for exploration and/or aerospace and who are in good academic standing. This scholarship supports undergraduate research, field work, or attendance/presentation at a conference.

Summer Research Funding
The Undergraduate Research office, Office of International Affairs, University Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences (division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences) offer a joint application for four summer research funding opportunities.

URO Summer Research Fellowships support students in any field of study with the opportunity to carry out an independent research project with an Ohio State faculty member. (Thanks to generous sponsorship of the Departments of Psychology and Economics, additional awards will be earmarked for psychology and economics majors.)
Mayers Summer Research Scholarships provide students majoring in actuarial science, astronomy and astrophysics, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer and information science, data analytics, evolution and ecology, earth sciences, mathematics, microbiology, molecular genetics, physics, plant cellular and molecular biology, or zoology the opportunity to significantly enhance the quality of their research and thesis projects.
Holbrook Research Abroad Fellowships provide students in any field of study with the opportunity to carry out an independent research project in a foreign country with the guidance of an Ohio State faculty member.
Undergraduate Library Research Fellowships provide the experience of seeing how scholarship is communicated and disseminated through work in libraries.

Ways to Go Abroad
There are many ways to study or travel abroad as a student at Ohio State including the following:
Ohio State faculty-led programs -
Groups of Ohio State students study together with an Ohio State faculty or staff member or graduate teaching assistant serving as resident director.
Third Party Provider Programs -
Programs managed by another U.S. or educational organization that are selected by an Ohio State academic unit.
Direct Enroll Programs -
Programs that allow students to enroll directly in classes at a foreign institution with whom Ohio State affiliates, but are not part of a student exchange agreement, selected by an Ohio State academic unit.
International Exchange Programs -
Programs that allow third and fourth year Ohio State students to study at a foreign language institution while a student from that institution comes to study at Ohio State.

When Should You Start Planning to Study Abroad?
It's never too early to start planning; ideally, getting started one year in advance of your departure allows sufficient time for thorough planning and preparation.

How to Select an Education Abroad Program
Attend a
Getting Started session and learn how to select an education abroad program that is the best fit for you, how to finance your education abroad, how to navigate the application process and more. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during autumn and spring semesters in Room 160 of the Enarson Classroom Building.

There Are Over 100 Programs to Choose From!
The Office of International Affairs provides a searchable data base to help you identify program options. You may search over 100 programs by country, language, subject and more. Once you've attended a Getting Started session, you're ready to begin searching for a program. Check out the education abroad program offerings via the

Get a Passport - Renew Your Passport
Having a passport already in hand will facilitate your studies abroad, broaden your worldview and open doors to countless international opportunities.
If you currently have a passport, check the expiration date. Most countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the end date of your study abroad program. Learn how

We Can Help You Afford an Education Abroad
Keith and Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships are need-based and designed for arts and sciences majors who would not normally be able to afford an education abroad. Students must have a current FAFSA on file with Financial Aid in order to be eligible.
Humanities Scholarships are open to students with a major in the humanities. See fund specifics for additional criteria.
The Roth Family Endowment supports arts and sciences students who are active in the Recruitment and Diversity Services (RDS) office Program for Advancing Scholarship and Service (PASS).

Fellowships for STEM Students from the East Asian Studies Center
Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships are available to undergraduate students in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field who have successfully completed two years of college-level East Asian language study. Subject to approval, fellowships may be used at other U.S. or foreign institutions. For more detail on award guidelines and application procedures, click

Fellowships from the Center for Slavic and East European Studies
Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships are available to undergraduate students who are pursuing a course of study requiring advanced foreign language and area studies training. Eligible languages taught at Ohio State include Bosnian-Croation-Serbian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish and Uzbek. Subject to approval, fellowships may be used for study at other U.S. institutions or to study abroad. For more detail on award guidelines and application procedures, click

National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Application
Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide. Programs must be at least 28 days in length, and semester- or year-long programs in non-Western European countries are preferred.
Although there is no campus selection process, applicants must be certified by the Office of International Affairs and Financial Aid; therefore, students should contact these offices a minimum of three weeks before the national deadlines. The application becomes available (online) in mid-January. More info.

Summer Term 2017 Tuition Update
Ohio State's summer course structure allows for a variety of four-, six-, eight- and 12-week classes to give students more opportunities to make progress toward their degrees. For Summer Term 2017, tuition discounts also are available. These fall into two categories:
- Tuition will be reduced 25 percent for Ohio State undergraduates taking summer classes on the Columbus campus.
- Separately, tuition will be reduced 50 percent (for up to three credits) in place of the 25 percent discount for the first four-week summer session on all Ohio State campuses. This is available only for undergraduate, graduate and professional students who were enrolled full time at Ohio State during spring semester.
In both cases, tuition discounts apply to instructional, general and non-resident fees.
The flexibility in summer course structure and the discounted tuition are just two ways Ohio State is committed to access and affordability. For more information see the
