Bay Ridge Resistance Series: Know Your Rights

In light of the increase in violent attacks on Arab and Muslim communities followed by Donald Trump's election, NYC Students for Justice in Palestine will be holding a series of self-defense trainings, Know Your Rights legal workshops, discussions on mental health and wellness, and more as part of our Bay Ridge Resistance Workshop Series. The first session will consist of a Know Your Rights session with labor and human rights attorney, Suzanne Adely, where community members will be informed about their legal rights in dealing with discrimination, police brutality, surveillance, and entrapment.

Mayada and Friends Fundraising Dinner

The Rutgers Presbyterian Church Refugee Task Force invites you to a special fundraising dinner, January 8, 2017. Mayada, a Syrian refugee who arrived in the U.S. with her husband and four children six months ago, will be cooking and serving dinner for about 60 guests at Rutgers. Dinner will be $40 for adults and $20 for children under 16; all proceeds will go directly to Mayada to help her support her family.

American Arabesque "Meet the Artists"

A stunning art exhibition by contemporary Arab Americans and Arab artists is on display at the Durant Arts Center, through January 12, 2017. The exhibit is part of the inaugural American Arabesque: A Celebration of Culture events. Amr Mounib will lead free curator tours of the unprecedented exhibition of 34 Arab American and Arab artists on January 5 and 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the gallery. All art is available for purchase.
