The Chair's Corner
WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT: Chair's Corner Special Bulletin on Hurricane Harvey - How to Help
August 28, 2017

LET'S DO OUR PART...

In the days since Hurrican Harvey made landfall in Rockport, the storm has lingered over southeast Texas and Houston, leading to historic levels of rain and devastating flooding. This is a massive natural disaster and many thousands of people will need our help, both in impacted areas and as they make their way to DFW for shelter.

Right now, several shelters are in place in Dallas County to help house evacuees, and on Tuesday a mega shelter should be operational as well. These shelters will need supplies. According to the best information I have at this time, we should not take supplies to the shelters. Instead, if you want to help with supplies, take them to a special centralized drop-off location operated by Trusted World.

LOCATION AND HOURS:

Trusted World Supply Drop-Off
15660 Dallas Parkway
Dallas, Texas 75248
Currently, per the Trusted World website: 3-8pm daily and Sunday, 8 AM to 6 PM.

NEEDED ITEMS INCLUDE:

Diapers
Baby Wipes
Toiletries
Feminine Hygiene Products
Nonperishable Food
Baby Food
New Underwear
New Socks

MONETARY DONATIONS & VOLUNTEERING:

If you do not have time to purchase and deliver items, you can also help by making a donation to trusted aid organizations or signing up to volunteer:

American Red Cross:

Salvation Army:

PLEASE HELP NOW:

We do not yet know how bad this may get. It is important for all of us to help as much as we can. If you have friends and relatives in Houston who are leaving the area, encourage them to stay with you. We need to do anything we can to help shoulder the burden of housing evacuees, as our shelter resources in the Dallas area may be overwhelmed.

This is a developming situation. As any changes occur that are important, I'll do my best to keep you informed.

Democratically Yours,
Carol Donovan
