NCCPS Partners on See Something, Say Something
We are partnering with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to help raise public awareness of the indicators of terrorism and terrorism-related crimes through the "
If You See Something, Say Something
™" campaign. Colleges and universities can join this effort by encouraging students, faculty, and staff to take "
The Challenge," which involves interactive, online videos that are intended to test a viewer's ability to spot suspicious activity.
"The Challenge" videos can be downloaded and added to your public safety department's website or shared via Facebook and Twitter. In addition, information is available about how to
recognize suspicious activity, protect civil rights and liberties, and how to report suspicious activity if it comes to your attention. DHS has also created accompanying outreach materials for use on bus shelters, in common areas, or in campus printed literature. The "If You See Something, Say Something™"
campaign was originally launched by DHS in July 2010, and has been featured prominently at major league sporting events, concerts, festivals, conventions and venues that students may have visited this summer. The
NCAA and DHS have been working together for six years to advance "If You See Something, Say Something™," by
promoting the campaign at NCAA events. With your help, we can spread this important message to students, faculty, and staff on your campuses.

OVW Grant Opportunity for Campuses
Colleges and universities face unique challenges in the prevention and response to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. It is vital that institutions of higher education (IHEs) develop campus-wide coordinated responses, adopt effective policies and protocols, develop victim services and advocacy programs, and implement effective prevention approaches.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice,
Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) posted the grant opportunity,
FY 2017 Grants to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus Program (Campus Program). The Campus Program encourages a comprehensive coordinated community approach that enhances victim safety, provides services for victims, and supports efforts to hold offenders accountable. The funding supports activities that develop and strengthen trauma-informed victim services and strategies to prevent, investigate, and respond to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
Eligible applicants include public, private, and state controlled IHEs. OVW will conduct three pre-application information sessions via conference calls for eligible and interested entities. Participation in these sessions is optional. The sessions are tentatively scheduled for 2:00-4:00PM ET on:
- January 25, 2017
- February 1, 2017
- February 8, 2017
To register for a session, send
an email to the OVW Campus Program and include at least two requested session dates in case your first choice request cannot be granted. Registration must be received at least two days prior to the start of the session. Interested applicants will receive a confirmation email to verify that they are registered for the requested call.
