Vector Control for Environmental Health Professionals (VCEHP) courses launch

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and partners are proud to announce the new virtual training Vector Control for Environmental Health Professionals.

Register today for this training on using integrated pest management (IPM) to control vectors that spread diseases, including Zika virus. Nine in ten pilot testers said they would recommend this training to a colleague. It's free, practical, and you can earn CEUs.

The 11 new courses are:
  • V101: Vector-borne Diseases of Public Health Importance
  • V102: IPM Basics for Environmental Health Professionals
  • V103: Performance Assessment and Improvement of Vector Control Services
  • V104: Tick Biology and Control
  • V105: Mosquito Biology and Control
  • V106: Toxicology of Pesticides for Environmental Health Professionals
  • V107: Rodent Management
  • V108: Public Health Insect Pests in Food & Housing Environments
  • V109: Pest Management Considerations for Schools
  • V110: Risk Communication Basics for Environmental Health Professionals
  • V111: Bed Bugs - Identification, Biology, and Control

Partner Spotlight:
Romeo R. Barrera


Romeo Barrera, BS is the Business Manager and Sr. Section Administrator at the Tulane University Center for Applied Environmental Public Health (CAEPH). Barrera  received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of New Orleans. He serves as CAEPH's principal business and operations administrator for research activities and distance learning programs. As part of the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center team, Mr. Barrera is responsible for executing and managing financials, reporting, fulfillment of deliverables and compliance requirements.  Barrera is also responsible for administrative maintenance of CAEPH's business strategy, technical infrastructure and platforms.

Environmental Public Health Online Courses (EPHOC)

The Environmental Public Health Online Courses (EPHOC) bundle is a comprehensive package of courses for environmental public health practitioners. The 15 courses are taught by experts in their field and include information on various roles and responsibilities of environmental public health staff. Target audiences include: new-hire environmental public health professionals, individuals preparing for a state or national credential exam, environmental health students and environmental public health professionals wanting to improve their technical knowledge. This bundle of courses is designed to be used as a study guide for the   National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)  exam. At this time there isn't an official certificate awarded for completing all 15 courses.

Courses in the EPHOC course bundle include:

  • E003: Food Protection - 4 hours
  • E004: Potable Water - 6 hours
