Protect the Lifeline

Do you or a loved one benefit from the ACA? Then share your ACA story!

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), often referred to as "Obamacare", made significant progress in expanding access to health care for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Because of the ACA:
  • Health insurers can't deny your health insurance if you have a disability or chronic condition;
  • There aren't arbitrary financial limits to how much health care you can get in a year or in your lifetime;
  • Twenty million adults and children now have health insurance, thanks to the Medicaid Expansion and the health insurance subsidies; and
  • More people with disabilities receive supports and live in the community, not institutions.
  • Specifically in New Jersey, it is important to know that some individuals with I/DD have Medicaid through the Medicaid expansion provision of the ACA.
Please Tell The Arc Your Affordable Care Act Story!

The Arc of the U.S. is collecting these stories to personalize the ACA fight. It is critical that the I/DD community is a part of any discussion about repeal and replace to ensure that any changes meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Your story will be reviewed by The Arc's staff, and we may reach out to you with follow up questions. We are getting requests from Members of Congress and the media for stories from people with I/DD and their families, and we will follow up with you for permission before sharing your story.
