Yesterday was a great day. The staff gathered to serve at our partner school, Westside Elementary, for the morning. It was so encouraging to hear this good news from the school staff:
- Student attendance rates going up
- Behavioral referrals going way down
- Reading and math scores on the rise
- Westside Elementary no longer at the bottom in their district
We are their biggest supporter – this past year we had over 200 different people serving over 2,500 hours! Here are a few examples:
- Adopting teachers
- Giving grants
- Donating and building a greenhouse
- Providing a Christmas store where kids could purchase their parents a gift at a greatly reduced price – ok almost free. (More than 1,200 gifts were given to support all of our Christmas Stores this year!)
- Door Creek volunteers starting a new ministry helping Westside families move who have experienced eviction.
What was so encouraging was to meet a woman, who like several others, started attending at Door Creek because of our involvement in the lives of the students and families in their community.
Thanks for being a Christ-centered church for all people, where the power of the gospel is transforming lives, renewing our city and changing the world!
Have a great day!
