Who Are You? Series: "Renew Our Calling"

The beginning of a new calendar year is a time when we often reassess direction and ask questions yet again about who we are and where we are going in life. We make resolutions, we sign up at the gym (again), we vow to be better people. This year we will take a deep journey into the question, "Who Are You?" We will discover that "who we are" is indelibly linked to "Whose we are." This Sunday we talk about change, new beginnings, and how God has called us to a special purpose.

Rev. John Mollet speaking in the traditional services
Rev. Grant Palma speaking in the contemporary service
Rev. Armando Alvarado speaking in the bilingual service

Methodist Activity Center
Are you tired of referring to the building across Church Street as "the former Senior Activity Center"? After weeks of debate and meetings and brainstorming, we have settled on a new name! The building-formerly-known-as will now be called the Methodist Activity Center (MAC). This name will make it easier for others in our community to begin associating 421 Church Street with the Methodist Church. It also satisfies our need to not limit ourselves to one single purpose (missions, education, etc.). We invite you to view the map of the building, complete with room designations (the rooms in the MAC are identified by letter) on our website.

Too Busy Not to Pray is a four-week study by Bill Hybels. In this study, you will learn how to become a person of prayer. As Hybels suggests, one does not need to return to school or begin a new diet to learn how to pray. You can be the person you currently are to learn the power of prayer. If you desire to talk to and listen to God, this class is for you. Classes will be Thursday evenings, February 2-23, from 6 to 7:30 PM in the Family Life Center Room 2011. If you are interested in signing up for this study and/or desire additional information, please contact Sandra Nasr, [email protected] or Charles Demack, [email protected].

Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Take one healthy dose regularly. Any amount helps!
Volunteers live healthier, happier lives. Honestly! Unsure about what that could look like in your busy schedule? Let's talk! You'd be amazed how accommodating our "team concept" can be when we serve in ministry together here at FUMCG.
  • 8:15 Traditional Service, 10:30 Contemporary and 10:30 Traditional services need additional greeters and ushers to round out their monthly schedules. Serve once a month or more, or be on their sub list!
  • Our Thrift Shop is serving more people, selling more things, receiving more donations since they moved across the street. This well-oiled organization has more creative ideas on how a person can be a real help with small tasks!!
  • Angels On Call members receive emails when unique jobs come up which we need to have done to help church run better. Placing labels for bulk mail jobs. Helping decorate the worship spaces seasonally. Helping UNdecorate! Being extra greeters at special events. One never knows!
  • Read with a child. Play with a child. Be a VAST volunteer in the afterschool program from 3-6 PM one day a week, Monday-Thursday. Your choice!
Bev Campisi finds joy in her job as Volunteer Coordinator and will love the chance to help you decide how your Sacred Doing might look in this new year. Email her at [email protected] to learn more! She will help you find a way to realize how volunteering can be such a healthy choice for you!

The Weekend Food team is currently feeding about 750 children each weekend, covering 11 schools. Your generosity in funding this program has allowed us to provide more variety in the food items this year, adding items like breakfast cereals and crackers and cheese to vary the menu. We've also made some changes in the program for the middle schools and high schools, where the students are more self-conscious about receiving the food.  As always, your commitment makes Weekend Food work. We have around 130 people volunteering each semester, and that includes some community groups as well as our members.  We still have openings for volunteers, particularly for bagging and delivering. Follow these Signup Genius links for: bagging and delivering. View our full report on our website...

Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! GRACE is low on condiments, salt and pepper, ramen noodles, juice, pasta sauce, dry pastas, canned meat, and canned fruit. Visit the GRACE website for a full list of needs. If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.
Opportunities to Grow...

We'd like to remind you all about the Thursday Morning Studies that are available for men. Visit our website for a brief description of each group. The Main Street Bakery Group is continuing on the theme of praying for our children with "The Power of Praying for your Adult Children" by Stormie Omartian. We will have a few copies of books for those that decided you want to join us for our study. Also, plan on joining with all the groups for breakfast fellowship next Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 AM in the Family Life Center. For those of you who like to cook, show up at 5 AM and help O.C. prepare a big breakfast. We will have special guest speaker Marcus Bellamy who is the Business Administrator for FUMC Grapevine. He will be speaking to us about his past ministry experiences and what brought him to FUMC Grapevine.

Musikgarten is now registering for the winter/spring semester. Watch your child grow through the wonder of music! Musikgarten, an international program, has a formula for success: an age-appropriate and sequential curriculum, parental participation in the classroom and at home with your Family Home materials, and Education. Mary Diane Morley, Director of Musikgarten of Grapevine, has been teaching young children for 25 years. The classes have a profound impact on children - from helping them learn to appreciate music and become budding musicians to providing an outlet for creativity, expression, and the boundless supply of energy they have! Register now at www.msmorleysmusic.com. Questions? Call Mary Diane at 817-291-8516. Classes begin on January 30 and are held at FUMCG in Room 2001.
