The Embassy of India, Washington DC, held its first "Consular Open House" on January 4, 2017 to address the grievances of the people on issues related to visas, passports and OCI cards. The Consular Open House is a part of the new initiatives recently announced by Ambassador Navtej Sarna.

Despite the short notice and bad weather conditions, several applicants turned up for the event with enthusiasm. Individual applicants' issues were personally attended to by senior officers in Consular Wing.

Apart from personal grievances, various general issues and queries raised by visitors were also responded to by the Embassy officials. There was a general sense of appreciation by the visitors to the 'Open House' concept initiated by the Embassy.
Similar 'Open Houses' were also held in all Indian Consulates located in the U.S.A. The 'Open Houses' will continue to be held regularly on a fortnightly basis.
