Western National Parks Association Hosts Find Your Park Centennial Series

On February 4 & 18, March 4 & April 1, the Western National Parks Association's  Tucson Store will host a four-part interactive lecture program and expand WNPA's ongoing celebration of the National Park Service's one hundred year anniversary. 

The Find Your Park Centennial Series, funded by a grant from the Arizona Humanities, will explore the stories of Arizona's parks and demonstrate their relevance to today's urban population. Visit http://www.wnpa.org/events  to learn more about these lectures.

New National Monuments to Preserve Civil Rights Sites and the First National Monument to Civil War Reconstruction

Last week, the Obama Administration designated three new national monuments that will be managed by the National Park Service to recognize the nation's journey from the Civil War to the modern Civil Rights Movement. The President also expanded two Bureau of Land Management monuments: the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in southwestern Oregon and the California Coastal National Monument to protect natural and cultural resources and areas of critical biodiversity, including highly important wildlife habitat.

USDA Commits $32 Million to Protect Natural Resources through Joint Chiefs' Partnership

Through the Joint Chiefs' Landscape Restoration Partnership, USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and the U.S. Forest Service will invest the new funds in the fiscal year 2017 to add ten new projects and support 26 partnership projects underway. Federal, state, and local partners will bring an additional $30 million through financial and in-kind contributions over three years to implement the newly added projects.

BLM Names New Leader for National Conservations Lands

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) named Christopher J. McAlear, a career public servant, to lead its National Conservation Lands and Community Partnerships Directorate, which manages some of America's most spectacular landscapes.  McAlear officially takes the helm of this important national program after serving as its Deputy Director for the past four years.
