Testing and Test Prep

The Princeton Review will offer an SAT Prep Course at Northland this spring.
The course runs February 4 - March 7 and costs $449+tax.

 The classes will be held in the NAC on the Northland Secondary Campus.

Method Test Prep (SAT and ACT)
You can use your PSAT and PreACT score reports to identify areas of weakness and focus your test prep. Northland provides a free subscription to all high school students.
 
The Barbara Bush Library will offer free practice tests. Register online:

Plan now for your spring college visits. Many schools offer special visit days for juniors in the spring and/or Presidents' Day open houses.

The American Foreign Service Association high school essay contest is open to all high school students. Write a 1000 to 1250 word essay describing what you would do, if you were a U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Kenya, Afghanistan or Iraq, to address the country's refugee crisis. The winner receives $2,500, a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet the Secretary of State, and a full scholarship to a Semester at Sea educational voyage. Deadline is March 15.
 
Raise.me is a micro-scholarship program for achievements throughout your high school career. Create an account and log your achievements to earn scholarships from partner colleges.
 
The Fifth Month Scholarship is open to students ages 13 and older. In 250 words or less, address: "May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the number five explaining why five is important. Be serious or be funny." Deadline is May 31; the award is $1,500.
 
The All About Education Scholarship is open to students ages 13 and older. In 250 words or less, address: "How will a $3,000 scholarship for education make a difference in your life?" Deadline is April 30; the award is $3,000.
 
Other Opportunities
Many summer enrichment programs are starting to take applications and may offer early registration discounts. Summer programs are an opportunity to explore areas of interest, travel, spend time on a college campus and, in some cases, earn college credit.
 
Wonderworks offers pre-college summer programs in architecture, film, art, theater, and literature/film studies for current 9 th-11 th graders. Courses are held at the University of Houston and Rice. Scholarships are available.
 
Texas A&M-Galveston Sea Camp is a residential summer camp for ages 10-18. Topics include marine biology, coastal ecology, fishing, photography, oceanography, marine engineering, veterinary medicine, pre-med and more.
 
Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, offers a summer Pre-College Program in engineering, technology and business.
 
The Honors Summer Academy at Oklahoma Christian University features classes in engineering, Bible, humanities and sciences. The program runs July 9-14. Current 9 th-11 th graders are encouraged to apply.
 
The Experiment in International Living offers global travel and learning opportunities for high school students. Programs focus on the arts, community service, leadership, politics, language or the environment. Register by January 13 for a $200 discount.
 
Boston University offers a High School Summer Investigative Reporting Workshop. Students participate in journalism seminars and work alongside professional journalists.
