Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 08 28 17

Parents and Guardians,

Week One is in the books! I hope you and your student had a good first week, and you are beginning to settle back into your school year routine.

As a school, we are beginning to settle in as well. Students are beginning to memorize their schedules and figure out the fastest way to get to classes. After school traffic for student pickup also typically begins to improve this week as after-school schedules become more predictable. The first week always seems to have the most bumps, but this week should see things smoothing out.

Please take a few minutes to review the important dates and information below.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School
NOTE:
In an effort to be as efficient as possible, we prioritize our parent email as follows:
* New or time-sensitive topics of interest are at the top of the list
* Followed by the Calendar of Events and Activities
* Older items appear below the calendar until they become obsolete

If you would like to update your district/campus email preferences or change your email address, please click on the  Update Profile link at the footer of this email. You will receive an email from Constant Contact which will allow you to update your information and campus news preferences.

Student Recognition

Boys/Girls State
A few weeks ago, we shared an article about a student attending Boys' State, and we would like to take the opportunity to share some quotes from several other students who also participated in this week-long experience:

Zach Brown :  I t was a life changing experience and I made lifelong friends.

Katrina Leslie I learned more than I could remember about government positions, practiced proper parliamentary procedure in the Senate, and even submitted a concurrent resolution on the Texas Senate Floor. Girls State was also a place that was truly accepting and supportive of everyone. The state may be mythical, but the friendships I made will last a lifetime.

Clay Parker Coming into the week, I was already interested in the political field as a future career path, and by serving as a state delegate, I was able to achieve a greater understanding of what to expect in a political role. The new, fantastic friendships I was able to create within my assigned city undoubtedly justified the early mornings and late nights, and I will never forget those memories I created with my fellow Statesmen.

Anna Rouse I was the House Committee Chairwoman for Defense and Veterans Affairs, the Tejas County Chair for the Federal Party, and the Tejas County Sheriff. I wrote and submitted five pieces of legislation to the House, including a bill that would lower the annual fee paid by nuclear facilities. It was great to be a part of a group of like-minded young women who are going to shape the future of the world.

Dayton Thompson :  Although I wasn't initially interested in the political field, the program certainly left an impact on me. From giving speeches to over 600 high school students and running committee meetings, the experiences I gained in pursuit of the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court resulted in an improvement in both speaking skills and understanding how to lead.

Anna Rouse, Dayton Thompson and Katrina Leslie
being honored by the American Legion.
