New York Youth visit Silver Willow - July 26
|
TheSilver Willow team of staff and guides were thrilled to host a very unique shooting experience for a wonderful group of young boys, many heralding from the state of New York. They were a lively and fun bunch. A huge Thank You goes out to our wonderful guides who volunteered their time to help us make this special event happen while they were visiting Alberta.

Delta Waterfowl Hunter 101 Event - August 20th |
On Sunday August 20th, the Calgary chapter of Delta Waterfowl organized a Waterfowl Hunting 101 event as part of their
First Hunt program. Twenty participants from a broad variety of backgrounds attended the event at Silver Willow where they learned about waterfowl hunting, conservation, and firearm safety.
Participants ranging from 12 to 38 years of age, many of whom had not shot sporting clays before, were give the opportunity to try a variety of shotguns at the Duck Pond and speak with local waterfowl hunters about upcoming mentored hunts planned for this season. The inaugural event was a tremendous success and the chapter volunteers look forward to delivering a similar program again in 2018!

Silver Willow welcomes new full time staff member
Kurtis to our team.
How long have you worked at Silver Willow? I have been working off and on for the last year or so. I started full time in mid July. ( Kurtis has been learning the reception role to help fill in for Pat)
What's the best things about working here? It's been awesome getting to know the members and people who come to shoot. Generally great attitudes and everyone is just interested in having a good time. It's also great to connect with the staff and guides, everybody has made me feel right at home.
Tell us about your bucket list items? I've spent most of my life working at ticking off bucket-list items but that list just keeps growing. I'm like a kid in a candy store but the candy store is this cool world we live in. Coming back into shotgun sports and hunting after being away from it since my 20's has given me a renewed interest. I'd like to shoot more and maybe compete.
Kurtis, will be replacing Maija out on the courses, as Maija leaves us after 5 years to begin her further education journey. He has been graciously filling in for Pat at the till, while she recovers from a broken ankle ( golf is a dangerous game LOL)

Licensing and Firearms Paperwork.
In Canada, the ownership, use and possession of firearms and ammunition is primarily governed by two federal statutes - The Canadian Firearms Act and The Criminal Code, as well as the Regulations found under both of these pieces of legislation.
There are three categories that firearms can fall into under these statutes - Non-Restricted, Restricted and Prohibited.
Non-Restricted firearms are the most common type of firearm in Canada, consisting mainly of those long arms that have not been declared Restricted by the federal government. Hunting rifles and shotguns as well as most target rifles and shotguns fall into this category.
