CIVIL RIGHTS ICON XERNONA CLAYTON IS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR MLK DAY CELEBRATION
Mark your calendar and plan to attend the City of Sandy Springs' annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scheduled for
Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sandy Springs City Hall located at 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500. Now in its 11th year, the event features inspirational tributes that capture and celebrate the spirit of Dr. King and reflect the diversity of the community. This year's Keynote Speaker will be Civil Rights icon, Xernona Clayton. Other speakers include Rabbi Analia Bortz (Congregation Or Hadash), Pastor Henry Bush (Sharon Community Church), Reverend Ricardo Green (Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church).
As part of the celebration, the City of Sandy Springs will present the 2017 Humanitarian Award honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The award recognizes an individual who embodies King's history of character and service.

WINTER SAFETY
The best time to prepare for a winter storm is before the threat of ice and snow. Ready.gov/winter-weather is one resource you can use to prepare, providing a checklist of things you can do to be winter ready. We also encourage you to sign up for

TRANSPORTATION
To keep you informed while road and intersection improvements are in the planning stages, the City hosts Public Information Meetings. These meetings provide you with an opportunity to review design plans, ask questions and voice any concerns you might have.
Upcoming in January:
LAST MILE CONNECTIVITY
Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, and Dunwoody, and the Perimeter Community Improvement District (PCID) are conducting a study related to last mile connectivity in and around the Perimeter area.
Last Mile Connectivity (LMC) addresses the connections between transit stops and stations or hubs, and final destinations such as residences, offices and retail areas. The Open House is scheduled for Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Northpark 400 Office Complex 1000 Abernathy Road. The organizations will host identical presentations at 6:15, 6:45, and 7:15 p.m. Maps, study recommendations, and other materials will be on display with staff members available to answer questions and take in feedback.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATION FOR THE
ANNUAL DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE
Just in time for Valentine's Day, Daddy's and their little girls can have a night out on the town! The dance will feature music from both generations geared to the dads or father figures and daughters provided by a DJ.
Saturday, February 4, 2017, 6-8 p.m. Location: Spalding Drive Charter Elementary Min/max Participants: 50/125 Cost: $35/daddy-daughter includes keepsake photo; $10 each additional daughter
Event includes dance contests, musical games, complementary snacks and refreshments, keepsake photo, door prizes and a goodie bag for each girl. Attire is business casual to semi-formal. Registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis until the event is full or February 3, 2017, whichever comes first. Open to all girls attending school in Sandy Springs. HERITAGE SANDY SPRINGS WINTER CLASSICS SERIES
Held one
Sunday evening a month,
January 8, 2017's concert will feature
CoResonance, a string quartet that seamlessly blends classical, jazz, and pop music into an unique, engaging experience.
Heritage Winter Classics will take place in Heritage Hall on the lower level of the Heritage Sandy Springs at 6110 Blue Stone Road. Admission is $5 for members of Heritage Sandy Springs and $10 for non-members. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. with performances from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cash bar available; no outside food or beverage permitted.
Free parking is available at the Heritage Sandy Springs lot on Blue Stone Road.

JOHNSON FERRY ROAD BRIDGE NAMED FOR SENATOR ISAKSON
Mayor Paul, Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee and retired Georgia Department of Transportation board member Johnny Gresham participated in the ceremony dedicating the bridge on Johnson Ferry Road over the Chattahoochee River after Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson.

RIBBON CUTTING AT CT COCINA & TAQUERIA
Staff and members of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce helped cut the ribbon officially opening CT Cocina & Taqueria to the City. Located at Abernathy Square on the corner of Roswell & Abernathy Roads, CT Cocina & Taqueria offers Mexican tacos and Latin Dishes with an international flavor. Open seven days a week, with daily specials and a full bar.

RIBBON CUTTING AT TIFF'S TREATS
Tiff's Treats opened its latest location on Perimeter Center West. Known for their baked-to-order cookies available by delivery or pickup, this location partnered with the non-profit organization, Ian's Friends Foundation for their grand opening.

RIBBON CUTTING AT PURE BARRE
Members of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce helped cut the ribbon welcoming Pure Barre to its latest location at 4920 Roswell Road. Pure Barre is a total body workout that utilizes the ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements, which burn fat and sculpt muscles.

RIBBON CUTTING AT JUST YOGA
Just Yoga, a new "hot yoga" studio, celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting and open house. Located at 205 Hildebrand Drive, Just Yoga's classes operate between 90-105 degrees F, and cover a wide range of rotating disciplines including: 26/2 Bikram, Vinyasa, Power, Flow, and more.
