Supervisors Appoint Chairman and Vice-Chairman
 
The January Board of Supervisors Meeting and 2017 Reorganization Meeting were held on Tuesday , January 3, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Township Administration Building Auditorium.

During the meeting, The Board of Supervisor's voted John Hertzer as Chairman and Andy Gribben as V ice-Chairman.
Major Land Development Plan for the RMU Recreation Center
 
At the January Board of Supervisors Meeting, the board approved the development for the new Robert Morris University Recreation Center .

The building will be 42,000 sq. ft. and will be located near the existing soccer fields and tennis courts.  The plan is to start construction in the spring of 2017. The facility will be used by the students for activities such as intramural sports. The new facility will act as the temporary training facility for the  RMU basketball teams while the Sewell Center is under renovations. 
Winter Reminders

Winter weather is on its way, are you prepared?

Moon Township encourages residents to get ready for winter by getting familiar with the township winter maintenance procedures and tips for a safe winter. Check out the  Winter Services Guide.

Snow Removal
It is unlawful to shovel your snow from your sidewalk or driveway into the public street. According to township ordinance 21-401.  

Christmas Tree Pickup
The Moon Township Public Works Department will offer curbside Christmas Tree Pickup for live trees only Tuesday, January 3 through Friday, January 13, 2017. 

Residents are asked to place trees at the curb by 8 A.M. on their regular garbage day. All ornaments and decorations must be removed. Artificial trees will not be accepted. If a tree is not picked up due to inclement weather, trees should remains at the curb and public works employees will soon be by to get them.

2017 Pavilion Rental Day: February 13-14, 2017

Moon Parks and Recreation will begin to take reservations for pavilions on Monday, February 13, 2017 for Moon Residents only at the Moon Parks and Recreation Office at the Robin Hill Center (949 Thorn Run Road) starting at 9:00 a.m.
Residents and Non-residents can make reservations starting Tuesday, February 14 at 9:00 a.m. at the Moon Parks office in the Robin Hill Center. 

All reservations must be done in person. Reservation and payment must be made by the residents to receive the resident rate. Rentals cannot be made in another person's name to get the resident rate.

Please come with a few alternate dates/pavilions in case your first choice is taken. Be aware there is often a line early that morning and a sign-in sheet. The sign-in sheet is not managed by Moon Parks, but we will honor it as we begin the pavilion rentals at 9:00 a.m.

Check, cash and credit cards (no Discover) will be accepted. Checks should be made out to "Moon Parks & Recreation". Required fees and deposits must be paid at the time of reservation. Deposits are in addition to the fees and can be paid with one check. Deposits will be returned up to 45 days after the reservation date if paid by check. If paid with a credit card, the deposit will be returned to the card. If paid by cash or check, a check will be mailed. 
Reservations can be made for dates in May through September. Monday-Friday are weekday rates, Saturday & Sunday are weekend rates. Only residents of Moon Township receive the resident rate. All agreements and payments must come from the resident. Crescent, Coraopolis and surrounding areas are considered non-residents and must pay the non-resident rates.

Public Awareness Weekend 2017 Dates Announced

Join MCA-TV this spring at their annual Public Awareness Weekend, scheduled for March 24-25, 2017! Public Awareness Weekend (PAW), is a two-day, 24 hour, live television event featuring interview broadcasts with Pittsburgh-area nonprofits. 

Each group will have the opportunity to speak for 30-minutes to educate other about their cause and encourage the community to take part and volunteer. All interviews will air live during the event and periodically following the event on MCA-TV's cable stations Comcast channel 14 and Verizon FiOs channel 35, reaching approximately 35,000 households in Moon Township and surrounding areas.

Today is a Great Day to Join the Moon Twp VFC!

Have you ever thought about becoming a firefighter? Join the Moon
Township Volunteer Fire Company Today!  Qualifications for joining are:
  • You must be at least 16 years of age and no more than 45 years of age. The maximum age requirement can be waved if you have prior firefighting experience.
  • You must live within the township of Moon.
  • You will be required to pass a drug test and physical before being accepted into membership.There is a $10 non-refundable application fee as well as a $50 fee for the drug test. The $50 will be reimbursed to you upon acceptance into the fire company and 1 year of service.
Applications can be obtained from any active firefighter, or you can stop in at any Fire Station.

The VFC has training nights every Monday night at 7 p.m. Anyone who is interested in joining can stop by any station and talk to the firefighters and ask questions.
MCA-TV Classes starting Thursday, February 16, 2017

Moon Community Access Television offers a free four-week television production training course for local residents. Classes begin Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 8 p.m. in the MCA-TV studio located at 1700 Beaver Grade Road, suite 140. The class is open to Moon Township residents and residents of surrounding communities looking to advance their knowledge of studio, camera, audio and technical training. Successful completion of the four-week course provides the opportunity to be an official MCA-TV volunteer. Active MCA-TV volunteers are given camera and studio equipment privileges as well as the opportunity to be a part of shows produced for and aired on MCA-TV.
 
Moon Township residents who successfully complete the course can become a community producer.Community producers provide the original and entertaining productions of MCA-TV's programming schedule.  Several MCA-TV original shows have won national and state-wide awards including "The Doctor Is In", produced by Dr. Marc Schneiderman, and "Soak it Up: A Storm Water Documentary". These award-winning shows express the evident value of community-produced programming.
