2017 Cross State Shoot Out, Greenville Country Club, August 26 &27
Kristen Rooke         - Victoria Tsurutis -        Cecilia Fournil
Up State Captain - Low Country Captain - Midlands Captain
It was a beautiful day at Greenville Country Club - Riverside Course, about 88 degrees, a slight breeze, with little humidity.  Perfect day for golf!  The lead group of the day was Up State's Vanessa Koechli/Emily Rapp vs the Midland's Cathy Hill/Hope Giordano.  Giordano making her debut appearance in an WSCGA event started with a birdie on the first hole.  The Hill/Giordano pair maintained the pace making the turn 3 up on the front over Koechli/Emily duo.  The momentum slowed on the back when Emily Rapp was 1 under after holes 10 & 11 on the back which spurred the Up State to win the back side 2 up.  Match resulting in 2 points for Midlands (front nine & total) and 1 point for Up State (back nine).

Following the lead group was the 12:40pm tee time of Melanie Manis/Jayne Pardus for the Low Country vs Pam Prescott/Chrissie Spidell playing for the Up State.  Manis/Pardus came out of the gate on fire taking the front nine point with 4 up.  The back nine got a little more interesting with Manis/Pardus being 2 up with 2 to go on the back. Chrissie Spidell's tee shot on the par 3, 17th hole, was about one foot past the fringe, over the green, leaving her a slick down hill chip needed to continue the match.  She chose to putt from off the green with perfect line, the ball hit the flag stick square on, rattled in the hole and sat on the edge.  The match ended with Low Country taking all 3 points.

Match 3 consisting of Midlands' Barbara Ryan/Melissa Meetze vs Low Country's Terri Allemang/Sara Youngner.  Ryan/Meetze ran into a buzz saw in this match with Youngner leading the way with consistency and then some ham and egging with Allemang.  The Low Country duo took the front 2 up and closed out the back 4 & 3 to secure all 3 points.

Midlands' Bartley/Huff and Up State's Godwin/Schwelder were competing in match 4.  The front nine was taken by Bartley/Huff shooting a best ball total of one over to be 1 up an the turn.  Godwin/Schwelder fought back and got the match to dormie on the back going into the 17th Hole.  Godwin stiffs a 6 iron to 5 feet on the par 3 looking to seal the deal, while Bartley short side herself in the grass bunker right of the green.  Bartley proceeds to slam dunk a high flop shot from the deep rough for birdie, putting pressure on Godwin.  Godwin didn't flinch and drained her 5 foot birdie putt, center cup to take the back side and overall total.  Giving the Up State 2 points and Midlands 1 point for the day.

The toughest match of the day was the 1:10pm tee time with Low Country's Lea Anne Brown/Rachel Wyatt vs. Up State's Stephanie Johnson/Angie Stec.  Both teams battled it with one or the other being 2 up or 2 down at sometime throughout the round.  Between the two teams they had 4 birdies in the group with Rachel Wyatt draining a 30 foot putt on 15th hole to bring the back nine back to even and end up splitting all points - front, back and total for an end of the day total of 1 1/2 points for each team.

The last match of the day was with the Midlands' Captain Cecilia Fournil partnered with Mandy Pierce vs Low Country's Julie Flynn/Stacey Tomlinson.  Flynn/Tomlinson were 1 under on the front side as a team to be 3 up at the turn.  Fournil/Pierce stepped up on the back nine shooting 1 over to split the point.  Match resulting in a 2 1/2 points to Low Country and 1/2 point for the Midlands'.
