What have Currituck 4-Hers been up to this summer?

A talented group of Currituck County 4-Her's were among the honorees during the recent State 4-H Congress held in Raleigh July 28-Aug 1. This year's 4-H Congress had over 500 youth and their adult leaders in attendance, participating in many activities including oral presentations, leadership and citizenship workshops, State and District officer elections, and a community service project.

4-H Youth Development

Ten members of the Currituck County 4-H Equestrian Program traveled to Raleigh,  July 5-9 , to participate in the North Carolina State 4-H Horse Show, held at the James B. Hunt Jr. Horse Complex. This invitational 4-H horse show, showcases riders ages 9-19, who earned qualifying points in various divisions at the district level. The event also provides competition in the areas of Artistic Expression and Oral Presentations.

To assist you with plans for the 2017-2018 growing season, results from the 2016-2017 Northeast Ag Expo wheat variety trials conducted in Camden, Chowan, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties are in. Varieties are listed according to their average yield across the five locations, ranking from highest to lowest. Variety performance data and rankings within each location are listed as well. 




Family & Consumer Sciences

Join us for the fourth annual Homegrown and Handmade contest to be held in conjunction with the Currituck Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 16th. The festival will take place at the Currituck County Rural Center located at 184 Milburn Sawyer Road in Powells Point, NC. Contest entries are currently being accepted in the youth and adult divisions for arts & crafts; baked & canned goods; homegrown fruits and vegetables and largest pumpkin. Entry is FREE!
