A Focus on Mental Illness in Children Comes to Sanborn
The School Welcomes Former NH Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick For a Special Event

Sanborn Regional High School is excited to announce that it will be hosting former New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick to the school on September 14, 2017 to share his message about childhood mental illness with the community. This event is jointly sponsored by the Sanborn Regional School District, Southern Rockingham Coalition for Youth, the Center for Life Management, Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange, and the Campaign to Change Direction. In his own words, Broderick sets the stage for his message by saying the following:

"Mental illness is the only illness from my childhood that remains in the shadows. We need to change the culture surrounding emotional suffering and we need to begin by letting everyone know its five most common signs and that early detection and treatment yield great success."

Sanborn Principal Brian M. Stack had this to say about the event: "Mental illness, both in children and adults, is one of the biggest threats to the long-term success of our local communities in southern New Hampshire. We have all been touched by someone with mental illness, and now more than ever, we need to band together to bring this issue to light and strategize what we can do as a larger community to eliminate this threat for our future. Our children are counting on us, and Mr. Broderick's campaign is one way we can educate ourselves on the best way to take action today for a better tomorrow."

Sanborn students will have the opportunity to hear Mr. Broderick speak in one of two morning sessions. At 11:30 AM, members of the public can meet Mr. Broderick by attending the Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange (P.A.C.E.)'s  luncheon with business and community members at the school. To RSVP for lunch, please contact Anne at P.A.C.E. at [email protected] . Lunch is $15.00 per person.

Health Office Back to School Basics
A Message From School Nurse Karen Scanlon, R.N.

Emergency Health/Contact Information
All students are required to have an Emergency Contact form on file in the health office for the school year. This information is very important in the event your child has a medical emergency at school and requires advanced medical treatment. Please take the time to accurately fill out the form and list any medical conditions your child may have, this type of information is critical for  emergency medical teams to provide safe treatment. You may fill out the form online by accessing the school's web page.
Medication at School
Sanborn has a no tolerance drug policy (please review it with your child in the student handbook). Any medication (prescription or over the counter) must be administered through the health office. Prescription medication must have a signed medication form filled out by your physician. Over the counter medication must have a signed parental form on file. The medication forms can be located on the district web page [email protected]  under the Health Services link under Medication Information.
Health Concerns
Students with health conditions that will require school day intervention should meet with the school nurse prior to the start of school to make appropriate plans. Medical care plans will be initiated to provide for safety and accommodate academic and sport schedules.

Immunizations
All students must meet the NH immunization requirements to attend school. Check your child's records to make sure he/she is current with the Tdap vaccination (Tetanus). Many high school students are due for a booster of this vaccination.
Sports Physicals
Students playing sports need to have a current (within the year) physical on file in the health office to participate in the athletic program.  While playing sports if a student has an injury they must be cleared by their physician to return to play and provide documentation of this to the health office. If your child has a medical issue that could impact them while participating in sports please make sure the health office and coaches are aware of this issue. We expect any medical supplies your child may need while playing sports you will provide a supply for the coaches to keep with their emergency equipment bags.
Fuel for Learning
It is very important for your child to eat breakfast and lunch to fuel their body to do their best academically. Breakfast and lunch are served at the café to help them stay energized through their day. Staying hydrated is as important as eating healthy, have your child bring a water bottle to school and drink water throughout the day.
Health Office
The health office is open 7:30 am-2:30 pm on Mon-Fri 7/17/17 thru 8/4/17. It will reopen 8/21/17 from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm Mon-Fri. Please contact Karen Scanlon R.N. at 603-642-3064 for an appointment.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer. I look forward to seeing everyone for the 2017-2018 school year!
Back To School Shopping? Don't Forget About Our Dress Code!
A Message From Principal Brian M. Stack

Are you getting as frustrated as I am that stores are pushing the back to school sales earlier and earlier into the summer? Since I know that some of you may be starting to take advantage of back to school clothing sales in the coming weeks, I want to draw your attention to our school's philosophy and beliefs around dress code. This logic applies to both boys and girls alike!

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Students at Sanborn Regional High School are expected to dress in an appropriate manner during the school day. We use the expression, "Dress for Success!"

Here are some things that students should keep in mind when shopping for new school clothes:
  • DRESS FOR SAFETY: Students are expected to follow all school rules governing safety in specialized programs that may require the wearing of protective clothing, safety glasses, proper foot protection, or other similar requirements. This includes areas such as the shop, the gym, and other specialized programs.
  • DRESS WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY: Through their choice of dress, students must display respect for themselves, their school, and their community. The wearing of clothing which is unduly revealing or attire which detracts in any way from the educational mission of the school is unacceptable.
  • AVOID THIS KIND OF DRESS: Clothing that promotes drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or violence is unacceptable. Clothing should not be offensive, nor should it include vulgar pictures or words.
  • HATS ARE OK: The wearing of hats is permitted only in the hallways, cafeteria, and other non-instructional spaces in the school. They are not permitted in classrooms.

Our staff reserves the right to ask students to change any attire that does not meet our "Dress for Success" requirements. We also reserve the right to send home any student who is dressed in an unduly offensive or inappropriate manner which disrupts the educational process.

Thank you for taking these points into consideration as you start thinking about your attire for the new school year!
Freshman Field Trip to Camp Lincoln
September 15, 2017

On Friday, September 15th, ninth grade students will attend a team-building field trip at Camp Lincoln in Kingston, NH. The purpose of this trip is to unite students from their various sending schools and to provide a positive experience to kick-off high school. Buses will depart from the high school at 7:45 AM and will return in time for afternoon dismissal. Students will need to provide their own lunch and drinks for the day (sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended). There is no cost for the trip; however, in order to attend, students must complete the attached field trip form and Challenge Course Release form prior to the trip.  Students who do not complete these forms will not be allowed to attend the trip. These forms can be brought to the main office or students may give them to their advisor on the first day of school.

Do You Have Unwanted Clothing?
Please Use Our Planet Aid Donation Boxes, Located in the Staff Parking Lot

When you drop your unwanted clothing off in these bins, the SRHS PTO gets paid based on the weight of the clothing! This is a really easy way to help our school. All PTO proceeds go directly back to programming and scholarships that directly benefit our students.

Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
