RSVP today to attend the CMS Annual Meeting in Breckenridge Sept 15-17th, 2017

Join the Colorado Medical Society for the 2017 Annual Meeting

Sept. 15-17, 2017
Breckenridge, Colo.

This September, Colorado physicians will come together as a community in Breckenridge for the 2017 CMS Annual Meeting to engage the experts, state and national, on the most pressing subjects of immediate relevance and concern to our medical community. A dedicated physician work group built the agenda from the ground up, drawn what is keeping medicine (and your advocates) up at night, and a methodical series of interviews and conversations with their peers.

The meeting has been engineered as a motivational sanctuary for physicians to share, argue, and learn from the best of the best - not the sort thing you can just read online. In an era of burnout and relenting change and stress, this gathering is intended o stimulate, entertain, and help, peer-to-peer, remember why doctors are doctors. As always, registration and meals are free for CMS members. Guests are welcome and free childcare is available with advance registration. Attendees can earn up to 9.75
AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™, as well as COPIC points.

Go to www.cms.org/events/annual-meeting for more information and to register.

AMA Launches an Opioid Educational microsite in July
New site features Opioid Task Force recommendations and resources from state and specialty societies

As part of its continued advocacy efforts to help reverse the nation's opioid epidemic, the American Medical Association launched a website focused on providing physicians with state- and specialty-specific education and training resources. The microsite,  www.end-opioid-epidemic.org , includes nearly 300 education and training resources across three major categories:
  1. Recommendations from the AMA Opioid Task Force
  2. State medical society resources
  3. Medical specialty society resources
Physicians can use the site's "State Selector" and "Specialty Selector" to find tailored education and training resources. The AMA Opioid Task Force also has identified numerous national education and training resources. The site highlights the progress physicians have made in using prescription drug monitoring programs, reducing the nation's opioid supply, increasing treatment capacity and increasing access to naloxone.

To further support physicians and patients locating physicians authorized to treat opioid dependency with buprenorphine by state, each state-specific page includes a link to the  U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Buprenorphine Treatment Practitioner Locator

America's medical community continues to focus on ways to support patients who need treatment as well as help increase overdose prevention efforts. The AMA Opioid Task Force also recently  issued recommendations focused on safe storage and disposal, encouraging physicians to:
  1. Talk to your patients about proper use of opioid analgesics
  2. Remind your patients to safely store medicines away from children and never share prescriptions
  3. Urge your patients to safely dispose of expired, unwanted, and unused medications, utilizing pharmacy and law enforcement "Take Back" resources
Be part of the solution today.
