Industry Connections
Engage with business leaders at
The Forum 2017

The partnership between industry and the workforce development system is critical to meeting goals of individual and community economic growth. Understanding the current and evolving needs of industry sectors informs strategic workforce development decisions and serves as a guide towards investments that should be made with workforce dollars.

During The Forum 2017, "Industry Connections" is a focused series of sessions held on Monday, March 27th, where attendees can receive direct input from industry leaders and hear firsthand the changing dynamics of the workplace, how industry is responding to those changes, and how workforce boards can be more effective at meeting the needs of business.

General Session
8:30 AM - 10:30 AM

The general session will include a keynote address from an industry leader and CEO, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from industry to answer questions in the following areas:
  • technologies that are impacting the knowledge/skills needed in the workplace
  • new competencies employers are seeking
  • current methods and challenges around recruiting, training, and retaining employees
  • impact of policies and regulations on productivity and growth
  • engagement with sector strategies, education, and workforce development
Business Briefings
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Business Briefings present a picture of trends and offer insights from industry sector leaders and economists into the competitive forces driving each industry and the workforce and skill shortages that could pose threats to continued viability. Discussions will build on themes from the general session to include opportunities, as well as challenges, facing industry and how the workforce development system can better respond to those challenges and opportunities. The following industry sectors will be represented:
  • Services (restaurant, retail, hotel)
  • Healthcare (clinical, home care, institutional)
  • Finance/Insurance/Business Services
  • Information Technology (cybersecurity, IT services, network)
  • Manufacturing/Construction/Energy
