ASES Foundation:  An Update
It is my pleasure to report to our membership an update of the ASES Foundation. From the efforts of Anna Quintanilla, the ASESF has recently been incorporated in Illinois; a transfer, so-to-speak, from Minnesota where our founding members, including Dr. Cofield, first established the not-for-profit Foundation. The by-laws have been updated, and we have established our Board of Trustees. This includes Jesse Jupiter as Past-President of ASES, Craig Satterlee as Secretary/Treasurer, and 5 members-at-large: Rob Bell, Rich Hawkins, Tony Miniaci, Anand Murthi, and JP Warner. The new board will officially meet in March 2017 in San Diego, CA.

Since we began our fund-raising efforts in 2014, we have had almost 170 donors support the Foundation, including nearly 40 new donors to date this year. Our leadership has visited with our industry partners to introduce them to the foundation and initiate what we hope will become a long-lasting mutually-beneficial working relationship. As the ASESF has taken over the responsibility for funding research and education, we have already provided support, with several fellows-in-training scholarships through the Rockwood Fund, as well as expanding research grant awards. The ASES history book was reprinted and presented to all new members. Many more initiatives are to come, including supporting the very important and successful travelling fellowships.

Our goal is to raise $5M over 5 years, and the funds in the ASESF have us about 40% of the way there. We obviously have more to raise to enable greater funds to be distributed to support our goals. The mission of the Foundation is to foster scientific advances and enhance the study of shoulder and elbow surgery by:

  • Addressing critical research needs and furthering the study of shoulder and elbow injuries and repair;
  • Supporting the entry of young physicians into the field;
  • Promoting and funding strategic educational initiatives in shoulder and elbow with the ultimate goal of delivering enhanced value based care through better patient outcomes and lower costs;
  • Educating the clinical and academic community, and the public, about care, surgical treatment options and prevention of injuries to shoulder and elbow.

We hope that all our members will support the ASES Foundation. If you are planning on doing so before the end of this year, we greatly appreciate your commitment to the Foundation and our aims. You can do so online through the following link:  ASES Foundation - Online Donation.  If you would prefer to complete a donation form to donate by check, please see the following link: ASES Foundation - Donation Form.

If you have any questions, please contact Anna or me. On behalf of the Board, and the ASES Executive Committee, I thank all of you who have given so generously to the Foundation.

Respectfully,
Jon
