Schools Open August 21st  

School for all Allen ISD students will begin on Monday, August 21 with new school hours. Elementary school hours are now 7:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Middle school hours are 8:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. The Lowery Freshman Center hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. and Allen High School hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. (schedules may vary). The Administration Building is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  

 

Schools are open for new student registration. Parents must enroll students at the school the student will attend. New students in grades seven through 12 should contact their school office to set up an appointment to create a class schedule.   

 

Allen ISD elementary schools will hold a "Meet The Teacher Night" on Thursday, August 17. A complete schedule of "Meet The Teacher" and orientation programs can be found here.   

 

Bus transportation for eligible students begins on the first day of school. Routes for 2017-2018 are available on the  Transportation page of the Allen ISD Web site. Parents are invited to sign up for e-mail alerts on the transportation page. Students should be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the scheduled times to avoid missing the bus.

School supply lists also are available on the district Web site.   

Parents: You Have An Assignment!  
All parents of Allen ISD students must complete the online back to school forms each year. Please go to the online back-to-school forms page in Family Access and complete the forms  as soon as possible so the schools can have the proper contact and emergency information about your child. 
Board Lowers Tax Rate
The Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved a budget in June for the 2017-2018 fiscal year that is based on a two cent reduction in the tax rate.

The Board approved a total budget of $ 242,357,300 which includes a  proposed tax rate of $1.57 for 2017-2018.  The rate includes a two cent reduction on the Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rate for next year.  The Board also lowered the school tax rate in 2014, 2015 and 2016.  A summary of the past five years is shown below.

The tax rate will officially be set on August 28.
Preston Elementary School To Officially Open August 17

Jenny Preston Elementary School will officially open on Thursday August 17 with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will be followed immediately by the school's Meet The Teacher Night.

The school, which is located on Hilliard Drive in northwest Allen, is named after Dr. Jenny Preston, former Allen ISD Superintendent of Schools and long-time Texas educator.

Construction began in early 2016 and was completed in the past few weeks.  A formal school dedication will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 2 p.m.
Allen ISD Campuses Meet Standard On Texas STAAR Examinations
Allen ISD and each of its schools earned the "Met Standard" rating for 2017 from the Texas Education Agency's accountability system. Every school in the state is rated as either "Met Standard" or "Improvement Required," based primarily on STAAR test scores. Other factors that determine the rating include student progress, closing performance gaps, college readiness standards, and graduation rates.

Board of Trustees Welcomes Two New Members For 17-18

Srivatsa (Vatsa) Ramanathan was sworn in to the Allen ISD Board of Trustees, Place 7, on June 5.   Ramanathan's term on the school board will run through May 2018, when Place 7 will be open for election. The Board of Trustees chose Ramanathan from a list of candidates who applied after the vacancy occurred.   He has worked for Fujitsu Network Communications in Richardson since 1998. 

Vatsa and his wife, Shubha Srivatsa, have lived in Allen since 1999 and have two daughters. Nandita graduated from Allen High School in 2016 and is now attending the University of Miami and Namrata will attend the Lowery Freshman Center in the fall.

David Noll was appointed to Place 2 on the Allen ISD Board of Trustees.  He replaced Carl Clemencich, who was elected to the Allen City Council. Noll's term on the school board will run through May 2018, when the Place 2 seat will be open for election.

David Noll is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a B.A. in Business & International Economics from Austin College.   He is married to Mandy Noll, a mathematics coordinator for Allen ISD.
Eagles Face Cedar Hill In Tom Landry Classic 

The Allen Eagles kick off the football season on September 1 against Cedar Hill in Allen's Eagle Stadium for the annual Tom Landry Classic. The game between two highly ranked teams begins at 7:30 p.m. A large crowd is expected so plan on arriving early for general admission seating.  The gates open at 6 p.m. Check the AISD Athletics website for ticket information. The Eagles play at home six more times during the regular season (football schedule).

AHS College Night Set For September 13th 

 

Allen High School will host its annual College Night on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m. More than 180 representatives from a wide range of colleges, universities, technical schools and armed forces branches from across the nation will be available to meet with students and parents. For more information, please contact the AHS College and Career Center at 469-319-6412.

Athletics Department To Celebrate Hall of Honor Inductees August 30 
The Allen ISD Athletics Department is hosting its Sixth Annual Hall of Honor Banquet on Wednesday, August 30 in the Allen High School Performing Arts Center Commons at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Athletics Department office, 301 Rivercrest Boulevard. Dress is casual. Call 972-727-0437 for more information.

The sixth class of inductees into the Hall were announced this summer   and include George Beynola (Class of '82); Karen Gravley (Girls Golf Coach); Stacy Hall-Mattei (Class of '83); Larry Sherman-top left (Class of '77); Doyle Williams (Class of '58); and Trey Williford (Class of '92).   The inductees will be honored through a permanent display outside of the main entrance of Eagle Stadium.
Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler

Get ready to let the good times roll and help the Foundation For Allen Schools celebrate its 20th anniversary at the October 21st Cajun Nights Benefit at the Sheraton Hotel in McKinney. This jazzy evening includes a VIP cocktail hour, creole cuisine, live band, live and silent auction, and more!  All proceeds from Cajun Nights directly support students and teachers in Allen ISD through the Foundation grant program and scholarship awards.

The live and silent auction will offer items and experiences that are exclusive for Cajun Nights. Revelers will have the chance to sponsor scholarships and help fund classroom grants as well as bid on some very unique experiences and items. Local businesses can contribute items for the auction by contacting [email protected].
