Where is your place of peace? Is it a geographic location? A place in memory?
Is your place of peace a warm spot in your body, a calm spot in the chest where the heart might be?

I remember a long-retired couple sitting in their respective easy chairs in the small front room of their retirement apartment. They faced toward the same wall upon which hung a map of the world. This map was covered with stick pins that marked all the places they had traveled in their long marriage. And as they gazed at the map they took turns spotting one pin, one place, and calling out, "Do you remember when we traveled to ..." And then there was the story and the remembrance and the laughter. Yes, the memories, the shared ones, the foggy ones, the places in mind and heart.

Where is your place of peace? And is this big empty place framed by stories that could only be named as sacred, the locale of holy things, where earth was intersected by heaven? At the time everything seemed so ordinary, just the way life is. But later you realize you were walking on streets of gold your whole life long without knowing it.
