Asbury Methodist Village: A Giving Community
Seneca Heights Apartments, permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless people, staff receive Sodexo-Asbury's delicious, prepared meals for their residents.
CFR's first large scale prepared food donor

Asbury Methodist Village retirement community, with four kitchens and 12 dining rooms, donates delicious and healthy prepared food, three times a week to CFR's food assistance non-profits, thanks to our new partnership with Sodexo. 

Lester Britton, Sodexo Assistant Dining Operations Manager, explains how they implemented the new food recovery initiative with their staff. "We spoke with the entire team, including servers in the dining room that do not interact with the food recovery, about the importance of food donation. Some members of staff have experienced hunger and appreciate the way they are giving back to their local community."

CFR Members Build Their Capacity to Serve
A CFR grant-funded refrigerator helped Red Wiggler to donate more fresh produce in the heat of the summer.
Liberty Grove UMC can now refrigerate recovered fresh local produce for later cooking thanks to a CFR mini-grant.
CFR Non-profits Build Their Capacity to Serve
Eleven organizations receive a total of $60,000 in CFR mini-grants 

The simple lack of refrigeration or freezer space is often cited as a major bottleneck in recovering and redistributing surplus food to where it is most needed.   Food donor, Red Wiggler Community Farm, and food assistance organization, Liberty Grove United Methodist Church (UMC), are among this year's recipients.

Manna Food Center is awarded Bethesda Magazine's prestigious Green Award for CFR

CFR, a program of Manna Food Center, won in the category of Innovation-nonprofit for, 'green products and/or services that is having or is poised to have a significant and measurable impact on sustainability either locally or on a broader scale.' 

While Manna's mission is to eliminate hunger  in Montgomery County, Community Food Rescue's network of redirecting perfectly good food before it is wasted also tackles a local and global environmental problem.
