A year in review by numbers:
  • 750,000 steps (350 miles) were taken by psychologist Mark Minear, Ph.D., who walked by foot across the state of Iowa in ten days, raising awareness and funds for boys and men's mental health services. Community support raised $15,000 for counseling assistance.

  • 17,204 hours of individual counseling was provided by the Center's 26 clinicians.
  • 2,383 sessions of psychiatry were provided.
  • 1,051 hours of family counseling was provided.
  • 702 sessions of psychological testing provided.
The Center's COOL (Children Overcoming the Obstacles in Life) clinicians consult in one of the therapy rooms for children and adolescents
  • 475 attended the Center's 18th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon to support mental health services for vulnerable girls and women. Community support raised more than $120,000 for counseling assistance.
Women Helping Women is like a banquet of understanding, hope and healing.
  • 150 people enjoyed a concert by singer/songwriter Sara Thomsen to support the Center's PrairieFire Scholarship Fund. Community support raised more than $13,000 for tuition support.
  • 57 clergy and congregational leaders participated in the Center's Soul Shop suicide prevention training.
  • 50 community members launched the Center's new "Redefining Aging" conversation series.
Aging is better than the alternative, according to the Center's Redefining Aging program facilitators.
  • 42 individuals graduated from the Center's PraireFire spiritual renewal program.
  • 40 years of leadership by Ellery H. Duke, psychologist and executive director, were celebrated. The community raised more than $50,000 for the Ellery H. Duke Fund for Hope & Healing to support new and innovative counseling programs.

  • 12 community members participated in Wisdom Stories, a writing class offered by the Center for Elders-in-Training.
  • 7 clinicians from the community were trained in Affirmative LGBTQ Counseling, a professional development course offered by the Center.
  • 5 graduate psychology students participated in the Center's clinical practicum program.

  • 4 months of rigorous self-study yielded the Center's full accreditation renewal for June 2016 - June 2020 from the Samaritan Institute.

  • 2 PrairieFire founders, Kathy Reardon and Kay Riley, were honored and thanked for cultivating a spiritual renewal program that has graduated more than 100 individuals.
