December Update

2016 was an incredible year for the ministry of Pilgrim Pines and we thank you for your participation. Thanks for coming to family camp, sending your child to Camp Squanto or attending a retreat. Thanks to those who helped during a work weekend or volunteered with a special project or made a donation. We are grateful to our Pilgrim Pines family.

As we reflect on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ,
on a silent night over 2000 years ago,
we are reminded that His ministry is the core
of everything we do here at camp.
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David
a Savior, who is CHRIST the LORD!"
- Luke 2:11 (ESV)

We wish you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
And remember, Family Camp is only 196 days away!

Ministry Moment
Joel Brand, Ministry Staff Intern, 2013-2014

I'm a gut guy; I have seen the Holy Spirit work in incredible ways in my life, when I trust my instincts! After my senior year at North Park, I had a degree in Youth Ministry and a desire to better understand full-time camp ministry. I had worked at Covenant Pines in northern Minnesota for the past four summers, but I wanted to "spread my wings and fly" outside of my comfort zone.

So I packed up my gray Toyota Corolla with everything I owned and drove "wicked far" until the words starting losing Rs. My destination was Swanzey Lake and mission was a yearlong internship at Pilgrim Pines. During those first couple of nights I sat in my bed and thought, "What the heck have I gotten myself into?   I'm a long way from home; if this whole thing goes sour, I don't even have cell phone reception to call for help!"

But I figured nobody hates the person who works really hard. So my prayer every morning was to honor God with my work that I would do that day. I immediately started trying to win over the kitchen crew (Shawn, Jason, and the dish-pit dudes) because I knew I needed to eat for the whole year. Maintenance immediately liked me because I was 6'5 and looked quite strong (but don't judge a book by it's cover; I'm much weaker than I appear!) But it was when I got the nickname "J.B." from Jimbo that I knew I was officially "in!"

And as I look back at my year at Pilgrim Pines, I can easily say it was one of the best years of my life. It confirmed my call to ministry and also helped prepare me for my decision to attend North Park Seminary, where I am currently. I learned so much about myself, because I was constantly interacting with new people. You see, in the Midwest during my college years, I stayed within the same circles of people, so even when I met new people, it felt like they already knew me. They knew my family or knew my friends and I felt like my roles and rhythms of life were already established. I wanted to see if I truly believed in the same values and principles that had been instilled in me, or if I was just living them out, because I was a product of the system that I was in.

Time after time, I realized that the Gospel of Jesus was the same to me in New Hampshire as it was in the Midwest. I still wanted to love people, work hard and have fun. I still wanted to be transformed by the grace and mercy that I received from my Lord and Savior. I was the same person, but I was stagnant; I was growing more and more in my commitment to the Christ.

So I simply want to say "thank you" to all of you; even if I didn't get the pleasure of interacting with you personally, anyone reading this newsletter is a part of an institution that has deeply blessed me. The good news is my sister and brother-in-law, Jenna & Brad Frost, have been officially installed as co-pastors of Monadnock Covenant Church, so I will be traveling back to good old Swanzey Lake now more than ever! And as soon as I turn onto West Shore Road, I will sing the words by John Denver "Country roads take me home to the place I belong!" And I will continue to trust my gut instincts, because they sure did not let me down when they guided me to Pilgrim Pines.

Air Conditioning Update
We did it!  We were able to raise the funds needed to complete Phases One and Two of our Mayflower Air Conditioning Project.  The installation work is being performed as we speak.  We are pleased and excited about being able to provide a new, comfortable dining room experience for our family members and guests this summer.   To the anonymous donors who made this important enhancement to our ministry environment possible, we say THANK YOU.

For the past 60 years, Pilgrim Pines has been cared for by its generous volunteers and donors.  While there is still MUCH work to do to position Pilgrim Pines for the next 60 years of ministry, let us briefly pause and give thanks for this exciting step forward. Let us also remain committed to making sure God's plans for Pilgrim Pines are fulfilled.
Check it out!

Financial Update
We are two months into our 2016-2017 fiscal year.  To this point, we have GOOD NEWS to share with our Pilgrim Pines family members.  Financial support for our ministry has been markedly stronger in October-November 2016 than what it was in 2015.  PRAISE GOD!!  Here are the details:

OCTOBER
2015 Actual: $11,098
2016 Actual: $19,463 (+75.4%)
2016 Budget: $21,240 (-8.4%)

NOVEMBER
2015 Actual: $8,473
2016 Actual: $21,586 (+155%)
2016 Budget: $21,240 (+1.6%)

We are off to a GREAT start as concerns caring for our ministry financially speaking.  This is extremely important when you consider that we need to raise $350,000 in 2016-2017 to meet our operational commitments.  While we have a long way to go, our family members have clearly taken stock of the challenges facing Pilgrim Pines.  More and more folks are getting informed, stepping up and becoming part of our donor family.  More and more folks are demonstrating their commitment to the ministry of Pilgrim Pines.

Please consider becoming part of our donor family.  Pilgrim Pines has historically relied on the generosity of its volunteers and donors.  The heart and soul of our ministry is STRONG.  God is at work at Pilgrim Pines and we are committed to making sure His plans are fulfilled.  However, with our aging facilities and financial challenges in mind, your financial support of Pilgrim Pines is more important than ever.

Should anyone wish to discuss becoming a donor or getting better acquainted with some of our financial challenges, please feel free to reach out to Scott Lee, Executive Director at 603-352-0443 / [email protected].  He would be more than happy to meet with you and address any of your questions / concerns.

THANK YOU for your support.  THANK YOU for your generous hearts.  Each and every one of you are valued members of the Pilgrim Pines family.  This is YOUR camp.  This is OUR camp.  Together, we are stronger.  Together, we can meet our financial challenges.

Opportunities
Product and Service Donation
Imagine owning a home with hundreds of beds, 96 toilets, multiple electronics, multiple wifi locations, a fleet of vehicles, power equipment, etc.
As you can imagine it takes lots to keep the place going.
Pilgrim Pines is always looking for more partners in its ministry.  If you are interested in partnering with us, there are several ways you can contribute. Take a look at our product & services page for ways you can help. Or feel free to make a direct donation by clicking the DONATE button below.

Our hope is that you will continue to faithfully walk with us, as you have in the past.  So, we are asking you to please consider joining us on this journey with your gifts of talent, time, and treasure.

Volunteer Opportunities
Pilgrim Pines welcomes volunteers all year long
Whether you come by yourself, with your family or through a church group. We are blessed by volunteers who help in the kitchen, serve as weekend hosts, assist in the Mayflower office and work on maintenance projects.
We can really use some volunteer help now and into the fall as we are clearing some areas of overgrowth in the camping area.

Your church may even be interested in our " Adopt-a-Cabin" program. When a church adopts a cabin they commit to an annual donation toward its maintenance and often send a volunteer group to specifically tend to their cabin's needs.  Contact  Jim Condap  if your church is interested in volunteering or the Adopt-a-Cabin program.
